Re: The Esseintial Núta Blog

Hmmm, while I like coda /k/, it seems like a bit of an odd man out being the most back consonant to be in the coda. Almost seems like /x/ should join it as an allophony of /h/? Or maybe dump it for symmetry? At any rate, I do have one thing to add, *ahem*. *bangs fists on table in time to my chantin...

The sound, the form, or both?
The form.
IIRC, you help push me toward a certain labial sound... which, though I transcribed it somewhat lazily, that is an affricates containing that sound. LOL

Oh well, glad you think it looks cool.

I immediately thought of them when I saw the post about that dialect earlier! I couldn't remember the name though.

lastly, should I innovate some signs that are only used when a low sign has to be moved above the glyph and act as a high sign? Personally, I'd say to go for this option. Yeah, mayhap. However, that kinda forces the question of why those signs aren't always used just to totally avoid the issue. (Ye...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Well... I managed to force Latin into a Cherokee-esque phonology and a CV syllable structure via mostly normal sound changes. I mean, with enough time, anything's possible. (Plus, I think Romagnol looks really cool.)

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I suspected someone would bring up Bantu languages. Does it matter that these suffixes wouldn't be in any way related to a class system (maybe they are derived from an older one that is no longer productive or in use)?

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I just spent an absurdly long time organizing, uploading, re-organizing, sorting, re-naming, and re-uploading a vast array of characters for the overhaul of Shitullian. The new version has about twice as many vowels, which complicates the system that was in use. Now, I had to innovate some new vowel...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is it plausible that all nouns in a language have a non-class related suffix attached to them that is separated when the noun undergoes things like noun incorporation? I ask because I would like it to be clear why only a portion of the word (i.e. the root) is used for certain applications, and yet I...

Re: Yay or Nay?

This is almost a yay/nay question, so I figured I'd post it here and see how it goes. I recently completed an overhaul to the written forms of glyphs in Shitaall. However, now that I have, I have come across a bit of an issue. Before, there were only a few vowels, and when the non-inherent vowel was...

Only once per year, then I change back into a conlanger. Somehow I got unsubscribed from the Lexember thread. Has anyone encountered any similar problems? No, I haven't had such problems since the forum switched over. Maybe you clicked the link by accident at some time while scrolling on mobile or s...

I have worked out a good portion of back story for a D&D character for a campaign starting... probably after the new year. I am intensely jealous! I have wanted to play DnD for a long time and just don't know anyone near me who plays. I am saddened. I may just lurk at a local gaming store and see i...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The Spanish forms in -ante -iente are descended from the Latin present participle in -āns /-ēns and are called present participles in traditional grammar. However, they’ve largely lost their participial functionality* in verbal constructions and are mostly used as adjectives and nouns. The gerundio...

Present participles are a fairly common agentive in Romance languages. Take Spanish cantante (singer), hablante (speaker) and andante (wanderer) for example.
Isn't the present participle ending in Spanish -ando and not -ante, though?
