Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

Having grown a bit tired of Núta after the relay*, I’ve been toying with TLFKAT over the last week or so. I have many ideas about the morphology, but in the beginning I was convinced that I was satisfied with the phonology, which hadn’t changed since mid-2016. *I still fully plan on returning to it....

Re: CBB Conlang Relay IX

The big handedness is definitely somewhat on me [:D] . I put "a big handful of the villagers" to mean "many of the villagers"... and then never explained that sense of the word fo "hand" anywhere. [xD] Lol! That was one of the weirdest sentences for me in the relay as gestaltist’s Nakarian sentence...

Re: Yay or Nay?

etxxellp → etxellp etxxellp → etxxelp etxxellp → etxxeyellp Oh, I like these ideas! I like all three options, actually, so my first thought was to just use a different one in each daughter language, but then I remembered that the whole point of this is to make the protolanguage less clunky, so I'll...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Over the last few days I’ve been getting some fairly revolutionary ideas about what I want to do with my conlang TLFKAT. TLFKAT is a language I have worked with on and off since 2014 and it’s been through a number of permutations. The phonology has been more or less stable since I posted this versio...

Re: CBB Conlang Relay IX

So my schedule just became a lot more open… Would it still be possible for me to participate in this? Though I completely understand if you guys don't want to add anyone else, especially since there are only a few more people left. It is stretching out a bit, but I don't mind if others don't? I cer...

Re: Yay or Nay?

As some of you may remember from a few years ago, the protolanguage for what I call Project Ypsilon had the following affricates: /p͡ɸ b͡β pː͡ɸ bː͡β p͡ɸː b͡βː t͡θ d͡ð tː͡θ dː͡ð t͡θː d͡ðː t͡s d͡z tː͡s dː͡z t͡sː d͡zː t͡ʃ d͡ʒ tː͡ʃ dː͡ʒ t͡ʃː d͡ʒː k͡x g͡ɣ kː͡x gː͡ɣ k͡xː g͡ɣː/ I remember. Latest idea for Limestone: add ejectives! /n/ n /p p’ t t’ k k’ ʔ/ p p’ t t’ k k’ ’ /s ɬ x/ s ł x /r j w/ r y w I’m not sure whether to get rid of /p’ j/. /n/ n /p t t’ k k’ ʔ/ p t t’ k k’ ’ /s ɬ x/ s ł x /r w/ r w Regardless, I find this very attractive. The vowels are something along the lines of ...

I was hoping to finish the torch this evening but I’m afraid it hasn’t happened. I’m going to need another day or two. Sorry for the delay.

I’ve finished translating the text into Núta and am now going to sleep. I’m hoping to write the language description tomorrow, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I required an extra day, in which case I’ll be sure to post an update in the thread.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

My google-fu is failing me. English has a set of verbs that conjugate through ablaut—changing a vowel—and are considered irregular by modern standards: things like sing/sang/sung, drink/drank/drunk, sleep/slept, and so on. It seems as though there are internal patterns to those (see the i/a/u examp...

Re: The Esseintial Núta Blog

Glide Elision Revisited I’ve made some additions and adjustments to glide elision processes in Núta. These are threefold. A. Glide Elision in between Two Unstressed Vowels I have decided to extend glide elision to glides between unstressed vowels according to the following principles: w y elide bef...

Re: The Esseintial Núta Blog

I like your conlangs a lot Thank you very much for saying so! [:D] there's something appealing in a minimalistic phoneme inventory coupled with complex phonotactic rules. I don't know why, but it just seems "artistic" to me, like a painting carefully constructed from a small colour palette. I could...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Six more weeks of winter, or so I've heard. It cannot end soon enough. Meh, I can wait. We did the snow thing here in Suzhou a week ago, so I've gotten that out of my system. But as long as the water pipes don't burst (a widespread phenomenon here south of the Yangtse two years ago -- an area not a...
