Re: Project 4-and-2 Scratchpad

Just sorting out what syllables should be more frequent than others, given the typical frequency distributions found in natural language. Plus these may be useful for mapping a new surface phonemic inventory from the meta-phonology. Treating so far syllables beginning in /t w/ (the phonemic realisat...

Re: English Dialects

Basically what happens in AuE:

/ʌ/ > [ɐ]
/ɑː/ > [ɐː]
/ɒ/ > [ɔ~ɞ]
/ɔ(r)/ > [oː]
/oʊ/ > [əʉ]
/u/ > [ʉː]

Hence something like:
cup /kʌp/ > [kʰɐp̚]
carp /kɑp/ > [kʰɐːp̚]
cop /kɒp/ > [kʰɔp̚]
corpse /kɔrps/ > [kʰoːps]
cope /koʊp/ > [kʰəʉp̚]
coop /kup/ > [kʰʉːp̚]

LOT/CLOTH: [ɔ]
GONE: [ɔː] (marginal)

THOUGHT/NORTH/FORCE: [oː], before a vowel [oːɹ]
It's not British English though, which I think is more his point.

Re: Language evolution for long-lived people

Well to start with, it has been observed even in long-lived individuals in real life that their speech has changed markedly over the course of their life. For instance we have had opportunity to examine the Queen of England's speech over time due to her personal popularity and the popularity of her ...

What does the S stand for in your CS(C) syllable skeleton?

Have you no vowels?
Yep, that's the idea. Or at least, no phonemic vowels. The four syllabic consonants all double as vowels.

Project 4-and-2 Scratchpad

Hi everyone, long time no write! I haven't written anything on my conlangs on here for the longest while, though I don't believe it will be much longer before I'm happy to write some stuff about my two recent langs. More info on those later. For now, this is another new lang which I'm calling for no...

Re: Cool and weird things in your conlang

I don't know if this counts, but Lonmai Luna has a proper noun determiner(PND) which is added before proper nouns. For example: Alen Huan dem on dal PND Juan see the person(Interlinear) Juan sees/saw the person(Gloss) This is not unattested in natlangs though, Chamorro, for example has a similar de...
