Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

What consonant clusters can I derive these three clicks /ǀ ǁ ǂ/ from?

At the present, I've got:
/ǀ/ < /t̪k/
/ǁ/ < /t̪l/ or /t̪ˡk/
/ǂ/ < /t̪ʲk t̪ʲkʲ t̪kʲ/

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

I tried those three you suggested and they're too big to work, especially at an angle. Angular now seems like a requirement too otherwise it would look out of place. However I think I have found a solution.

Can't do dots or a single line, those are for diacritics.

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

To save on the number of glyphs, maybe I should use the diagonal line under Ka to indicate voicing instead?

Edit:
I went and did it anyways.

This looks marvelous! Very aesthetically pleasing.
As for new glyph shapes, are you are actively avoiding reflections of existing ones?
Yes, actively avoiding mere reflections of the letters.

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

I decided that I should make the archaic form of the seal bone script (michkasaruxo/onako) before I work on the cursive form, as such I have created 9/20 of the letters:

I need new ideas for new glyph shapes.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I now have conjugations for verbs in Proto-Bolu-Swdo, for example: shoro-khoyo "to speak" shoro-čhu "speak to me" shoro-häg "speak to you" shoro-ëšthä "speak to them" shoro-äpkä-khoyo "to profess" shoro-čhu-äpkä "profess to me" shoro-häg-äpkä "profess to you" shoro-ëšthä-äpkä "profess to them" shoro...

I divided the continent of Ashrna into its language families. My new language family, Bolu-Swto is a member of the Ashrnic language family.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Thanks, this is quite helpful. I will probably mix and match these suggestions as there is a good deal of changes I like. Though I'm surprised it requires so little sound changes, that these two languages could be directly related. Vowels nasalise in some environment I think I will play with rhinogl...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Could ya'll do me a favour and help me come up with a Proto-Language phonology that would connect these two language?: Bolu /i iː y yː/ /e eː ø øː/ /a aː ɒ ɒː/ /m n ɳ/ /p pʰ t tʰ k kʰ q qʰ/ /ʈʂ ʈʂʰ/ /s sʰ ʂ ʂʰ χ/ /l j w/ Swto /ɲ̍ ɲ̍ʷ ŋ̍ ŋ̍ʷ/ <- these behave like vowels /i y ɯ u/ /a ɒ/ /m n ɲ ŋ/ /p p...

Re: Yay or Nay?

Should my conlang use reflexive and reciprocal pronouns or stick with verbal prefixes? Why not both? Perhaps the verbal prefixes are mandatory, but the pronouns are used for emphasis or in special situations or phrases that don't have verb? Or in a different clause? The verbal prefixes would come f...

Re: Yay or Nay?

Should my conlang use reflexive and reciprocal pronouns or stick with verbal prefixes? Well there are some interesting things you can do with reflexives to do with using them across cause boundaries, for example perhaps to do with logophoricity, like "John said himself killed his uncle" vs. "John s...
