Re: alternate ways to say "tribal fantasy"

I fear this might be split into another thread even though I don't think it's worth being its own thing. It may be 'usual', but it's also factually unimpeachable - everywhere else WAS uncivilized and violent. This is factually impeachable. The actual historical, anthropological, and archaeological e...

Re: alternate ways to say "tribal fantasy"

So it was claimed that it's okay to colonize Papua/Africa/etc because they are just spear-chucking, constantly warring societies that would pillage, rape and kill each other if the Europeans would not pacify them. Which is kind of ironic if we look at European history. Well, factually speaking, the...

Re: alternate ways to say "tribal fantasy"

Stonepunk is an actual subgenre now, along with Bronzepunk and Plaguepunk. And Woodpunk, Ironpunk, Steelpunk, etc.
Maybe the conworld which Vrkhazh is found in would be an ironpunk world.

BTW - somebody please write about walrus-demons.
The Onschen people in my conworld fight walrus demons and there’s also psychic dolphin demons that hunt people from under the ice.

Re: I'd Like to See Phonetic Irish

Well I also know that <aoi> like in Caoimhin is a velarized /ii/. Actually now that I think about it I could see how <ao> becomes a velarized /ii/ if the blackness of the /o/ shifted to the consonant and /a/ would have become a schwa and get deleted.

Re: I'd Like to See Phonetic Irish

I mean even if you stick to the rule of broad to broad and slender to slender, it's still hard to tell which of two or three vowels actually gets pronounced.

That could be an applicative construction, whereby an oblique argument is promoted to direct object, or circumstantial, where an oblique argument is promoted to subject.

I like these, they have a Greco-Roman feel.

Is it possible for words for gendered children types be derived from a generic, gender neutral term + a gendered plural ending, like: wasa "child" > wasan "girls" / wasin "boys" > lexicalization, loss of singular form, and reanalysis > w(a)sana "girl" / w(a)sini "boy" yana "sibling" > yanan "sisters...

I'm not sure what case to put the actual recipient when an applicative turns a ditransitive like give into tritransitive because my language is secundative.

I gave him a book because of John (made me do it)= 1-NOM John-ACC give-APL book-INSTR 3ms-???

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Huh? Why? The point of the applicative is that the semantic role of the object is marked on the verb, so that the verb CAN be in the plain accusative. That's why I can't have distinctive applicatives without some additional affixes markers. With just an applicative there are many situations where c...
