Re: Yay or Nay?

If you think they warrant being analyzed as classes, please do so. Dividing them into classes and explaining each classes' behavior is, if possible, much more descriptive than a plain "irregular" label.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

So there’s syntactic based marking like good old nom/acc and erg/abs and the likes, where some NPs are cast to S/A/P which then receive case marking as appropriate. There’s semantic based marking, where this intermediate step is skipped and nouns are marked based on their semantic roles (agent, pat...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

You're all complaining about winter and in the meanwhile i'm just sitting here happy cause we didn't really have any real summer this year. Except maybe a couple weeks in December. So far my January Autumn has been beautifully pleasant.

Re: Yay or Nay?

Do the points 4 and 5 actually exist in natlangs? The closest I can think of is PIE accent, but that's so complicated and specific you can't really say that one pattern favours one word class over the other. There might be a language out there which behaves like this, but I would first wonder how t...

Y'know, I hadn't even thought of dehydration. I've had problems with headaches from not drinking enough in the past, but it didn't even occur to me that it might be a factor this time, too. I should watch how much I drink and see if it helps.
And some kinds of teas are diuretic so there's that too.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I've only ever seen the sprachbund in question referred to as "South-Asian" or "Indian", which is a common term for the region and definitely not to be confused with the SE sprachbund. As far as I can tell "Indosphere" refers to the wider cultural zone of Indic influence (e.g. Thai is in the Indosp...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

There is another sprachbund in the Indian subcontinent though. On the other hand I'm unaware of a conventionalized name for it. Indosphere strikes me as a cultural division, so i'm fairly certain it's not the correct term for a linguistic sprachbund.

2) I do not really know the details of your idea, but every implementation I can think of looks cool, so yay again. No wait, I mean something like this: It amounts to something like I (nom) see 1 I (nom) see 2 him (acc) Where see 1 and see 2 are different words. Suppletion for transitivity. You wan...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Basque is usually described as having a closed class of verbs.i don't know the details, though. IIRC, it's because only a handful of verbs can be conjugated synthetically for things like person, number, and tense (I've not found a full list, but it's maybe a dozen or two), while the rest of verbs a...

Did this yesterday, but that's ok. So, i'm reforming my first conlang, Kamëzet (shitty Portuguese documentation in my sig), into a protolang to use in CWS's collabworld, Sahar. So yesterday i translated a relatively complex sentence, which led me to think about complement and relative clauses in Pro...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

On a brighter note, I'm having something made that I'm rather excited about. I year or so ago, I was really obsessed with the idea of the cloak. I didn't have one, so I just wore a blanket around the house. I've always wanted one, but because they're very rarely seen outside of costume shops, I nev...
