Why?
Because I finished translating the parts from this_is_an_account, and now it's Davush's turn [:D]
Wow! That was fast!
Your post sounded a little like you wanted to drop out. I'm relieved to hear you didn't [:)]

Re: Some & all

:con: Yélian Just like in griuskant, the translation loses a lot as you cannot copy the analogy/parallelism of the "some/all". Note that the translators of the quote decided to use the 1PL inclusive verbal forms to convey the meaning best, as the 3rd person impersonal sounds odd and/or archaic nowad...

Can't say how much I'm looking forward to the results!

@Click: As for now it appears that Circle 1 will be done far ahead of Circle 2. Are you planning to release Circle 1 as soon as it's finished or are you going to wait till both circles are at their end?

Re: False friends and other unfortunate coincidences

Two examples of false friends between Standard German and Namibian German:

:nam: jdn. anbellen - to give someone a phone call
:deu: jdn. anbellen - to bark at someone

:nam: aussortieren - to sort something out [regard the English influence here]
:deu: aussortieren - to cull

Re: Words to mean Friend

Are we doing conlangs too?

The Yélian and Caelian words for friend, ʻifran and hivren respectively, are derived from an old root *hvrn, meaning to help.

Re: Words to mean Friend

The chinese word for friend is 朋友 (peng2you3). It consists of the characters 朋 and 友, both mean "friend" independently (but these words are not used on their own). The character 友 is an idiogrammic compound consisting of two hands (meeting in friendship): 又 + 又 朋 is a pictogramm of a bird that used ...

I will need about one more day to write up the documentation on Yélian, which I will send to Click and DzêtaRedfang then. Narrator: But he didn't need one more day. Fiv...

Re: CBB Conlang Relay X (starting Oct 1)

Hello! Relays on the CBB are usually organized in a linear fashion where each participant passes the torch successively. Because of the high interest for this relay I've decided to split it in two rings , however. This means that the relay is divided into two branches that will take part at the sam...

Re: False friends and other unfortunate coincidences

I was new in Germany, had a job, and a lady told that a guy came with full 'carajo' down the street, and i asked myself what she ment with it, since she seemed to be a quite decent lady, and for me what she was saying was that the guy came with a "full penis" down the street. 'Carajo' is for me a p...

I might be able to hurry up and get K'otê to a level where I could participate. I'd love to host it, but I'm on vacation for the entire September. So eithe...

Re: Lexicon milestones

I feel like Khemehekis has killed this thread - no offense at all, but every small achievement pales in comparison to this incredible amount of vocabulary that Kankonian has. [:(] That being said, I'm still proud of Caelian that has finally reached the 1,000 word mark. The 1,000st word is the root *...

Re: False friends and other unfortunate coincidences

Found another structual one:

:eng: all but
:deu: alles außer (everything except)

In a sentence like "nowadays, smoking in restaurants is all but forbidden", if you translate it too literally into German it sounds like smoking in restaurants is everything, but not forbidden.

Re: Caelian - a new Conlang by Iyionaku

Ranking of objects for verbal inflection As described before, Caelian inflects after subject and object of a noun. A speciality of the Caelian declension is that the object needn't necessarily be the direct object, but all other objects and adverbials can be used too. It is not arbitrary though, an...
