Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I think ultimately the "SJW" types end up doing a disservice to the causes they so tout. Because of their preoccupation with non-issues or at most minor issues, they cause people to see it all as a non-issue and dismiss what we should be talking about; those real issues get obscured by the noise an...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

The problem with the SJWs isn't that their pet issue doesn't exist, or that it needn't be addressed, it's that they exaggerate the scale of the problem and overact to non-issues as a result. Sadly, there are actually assholes out there. I do agree with you on that. There are some major problems in ...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I've just come back from a night out in a pub with some friends and I have to say that I'm shocked. I'm surrounded by a "bubble" of very open-minded people with reason so that I'm not really used to people actually sexually harrassing minors and hitting others that are just trying to talk. I just do...

The German imperative doesn't have the suffix “–en” in the singular, but you could also say “erzähle”. Alman emir kipi apostrofsuz (?) yazılar. O sadece küçük bir düzeltme! [:P] L'imperatif allemand s'écrit sa...

Re: Wacky theory on Basque.

Ideally I would have had a better corpus to choose from, [...] I think this is quite the good corpus so that one can see that these two are likely not related. Multiple words in your list are found in the Swadesh list as well which are lemmas that don't get replaced as often as others. The numbers ...

Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread

I was in a bit of a shock as well, when I saw the new design for the first time. I'll need to get used to it as well, but I actually like it so far. It's very simple and modern. While I do think a theme selector would be nice just to have the option to choose from different style, I don't think it's...

My goal for today: Create at least ten new verbs. The result: At least ten new nouns, but just one verb. [>_<]

Re: Yay or Nay?

Option 1 is basically Polish, so it's fine. I don't quite see why you feel the need to mess with the natural result. I thought it might look too different from other Slavic languages that use the Cyrillic script. Plus, I always thought the Polish ending was pronounced as /i.ja/ but just wasn't writ...

Re: Language practice thread

Ach. Das nervt mich so viel ! Ugh. That annoys me so much! German doesn't use the word 'viel' with adjectives.

Par exemple, la traduction la plus commune de « I can swim » est « Je sais nager » (c'est-à-dire « I know how to swim »). Dire « Je peux nager » donne l'impression qu'on a le d...

Re: Language practice thread

Generally, "pouvoir" implies permission rather than knowledge or ability. I would say "je sa...

Re: Yay or Nay?

So Cissian has the following sound changes that take place fairly late in the language's history (I'd say in about the 18th to 19th century): Cʲij/Cʲ/_V Cij/Cʲ/_V Cj/Cʲ/_V Now I don't know what to do with country names since they were mostly formed by adding -ija which turns into /ʲa/ in Cissian. I ...

This post's topic will be the basic numerals. This includes number one to ten and their declensions which are a bit more unique but also simpler as they don't decline as much as - for example - adjectives or nouns, bar number one. I will also list the most common bigger numbers afterwards in a simpl...

I bet it's "'ka.li.dum > 'kʰaɫ.do > 'xawt > 'hɔt".

Is Silvish #k > h a regularly change? It's definitely a new one, I don't remember seeing it before. But "hòt" sounds very unique though!

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Didn't get it. Ultimately the reason I love Sims 3 is because of its open world, open ended gameplay while I feel as if Sims 4 tries to fit you into a box and dictate your story for you. If I change my mind there are likely Christmas sales where I can get it even cheaper, but I don't think the core...
