Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

Ok, time for some proper grammatical content: Here is the first draft set of noun classes to use in the language, all marked with a branch direction (U/D/L/R): Location Apudessive "beside" (R) Inessive "inside" (U) Intrative "between" (literally between the two nouns) Locative "at" (R) Pertingent "a...

Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

Are these trees correct? https://abload.de/img/tree16zsor.png https://abload.de/img/tree2b7seo.png https://abload.de/img/tree3o5s7e.png Almost On the first one, my ASCII attempt put "quick-brown" in there so it was easier to see, but I'd've made it a 3-way split of "quick", "brown", and the H. The ...

Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

So I think I get your representations now. Maybe I could provide the trees? If you want to make trees, then by all means go for it. It would be nice to see how these things look when visualised in different ways - and if it makes it easier for people to understand how it's working, then I have no r...

Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

Could you maybe translate the bracket notation into 'real' trees? That would make it easier to understand, at least for me [:$] I'll certainly give it a go. I wasn't sure how I'd do it though. Doing it in the code block is a bit finicky, and Images can take a really long time. I'll see what I can do.

Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

Thinking about this tree representation, it occurs to me that there needs to be an order in which to vocalise each component. Some thoughts about ways to do it could include a breadth/depth first traversal of the graph, but this might be difficult to understand. I think I'm settled on this: A depth-...

Re: Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

Wow, that really sounds like an interesting idea. So many phoneme charts, but you don't usually see trees in conlangs (there are some notable exceptions though). Indeed. I'm pleased with the idea, as it's definitely not a common one, so I don't really have any existing languages to inadvertently co...

Scratchpad: Experiments with trees

As I start just about every one of my conlang projects: I haven't done any in quite a while. A lot of my more recent conlanging adventures were remakes of Dijo, which I'd argue is my best work yet, but I want to do something new this time. I've been looking around for inspiration for a while, and I ...

I saw someone make something similar to this elsewhere on the forum... and thought i'd take a crack at it myself: http://i.imgur.com/ny2VMg0.png . You know, for when a [+1] just ain't enough. Feel free to re-use and re-host and/or petition for it to be added as a smiley or whatnot. Oh hey, I was th...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I know. I have a bad habit of explaining jokes to their logical conclusions to the point where folks don't think I realized they were joking. I do this a lot . I almost find it funny because of the reactions you get, but I also sometimes get a good bit of brain exercise out of properly thinking thr...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Wow. I had no idea cloaks were popular here. A friend of mine had a cape w/hood that he picked up at a Renaissance Faire. It was hella fun to wear, but definitely made ya stand out... Even at Wal-Mart. Dunno if yours will be that overdone or more subtle. Either way, I say, go nuts and have fun while...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I really hate snow. However, this bout of it is excused as it closed my college on Monday. Tuesday was a frozen hell though - 7 layers (2 thermal vests, 2 t-shirts, a wool polo shirt, a big jumper, and a big coat (to be fair, I normally wear all but the coat in Autumn and Winter)) and I could barely...

And it now also has a pretty logo (after several revisions) (courtesy of Thrice of course), so what reason is there not to join?

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I've kind of based "Black" and "White" purely on colour (as the two words do fall under the category of "colour"), but thought nothing of it. It's a helpful identifying feature if you need to describe somebody to someone, but I don't see it as anything beyond that, as there isn't any other informati...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

One of the reasons I conlang is to keep my prescriptivism happy - because why complain at people using English incorrectly when you can have an entire language to control? Kind of as a result of that underlying intention, I want not only for my conlangs to be speak-able by me, but also for it to be ...

What language could this person speak?

So I came across a person on reddit asking about learning Java (on a completely irrelevant sub). This was the post's title and contents: How you to learn Java? How u have start. To. Learn Java and someone know good sites which introduce in programming ? This person clearly does not know English nati...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

On the note of "Christmas"... I work in retail so Christmas only offends me when it turns up before December, lol. One holiday shouldn't take up a literal third of my year [:P] Christmas should be the 24th through the 26th December. nothing more. Advent is the Christian bit that can start on the 1s...

Re: Project ᴏᴍɴɪ

Sounds like a clever system. If I'm understanding this correctly in that each ABC set is a root, then you have 1000 roots, not 100. Also, have you considered using 0 for the 10th item? Makes it easy to type on a numpad.
