Re: taking over done ideas and making them interesting

So if you had an idea that’s been done before, how did you execute it differently? I think this is the wrong way to think about things. I think if you go into things with that perspective, you focus too much on "ideas" - little "hey wouldn't it be cool if" slogans - and you get the idea that the so...

taking over done ideas and making them interesting

We have heard of elves, dwarves, orcs, gnomes, and dragons but has anyone heard of Dreydai? I'm concerned that my recent conworld may feel too run of the mill as it does have things similar to these creatures yet the setting is basically a world where continents and islands float over the ocean. A f...

why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

it's been something that has since throbbed in my head the moment I worked on my setting. I've asked this question a lot before and the common answer is because, well, humans are relateable. we can't relate to an elf because they feel too flawless. we can't relate to a dragon because they're too over...

Re: world introduction: verlyria

I have to say I like the variety of these peoples! What can you tell us about Butterfly warrior? Or his tiny companion? The butterfly is a young boy from the Tigris river tribe, named after the human made river in the garden. He raining to be warrior but wishes to see more outside of his garden hom...

Re: unconventional settings: how to get people interested

Yo, we get it. Sometimes people can be very insistent on these sort of things. I is it want to avoid a bit flame war and get on topic. Now, currently, I'm just trying to do some material for my setting with first being a screenplay for a possible pilot. I'm still stuck at it. What I'm doing is setti...

Re: world introduction: verlyria

Des is correct in saying there's not enough to really comment on, but I do have a few thoughts... First, on naked women. I'm a big fan of naked women, in general, but cartoon naked fantasy women (and clothed men) is a bit of an eyeball-rolling "oh, teenage wish-fulfillment" trope, isn't it? But act...

Re: world introduction: verlyria

I think this conworld sounds quite fun. I don’t play games, so I might well be mistaken, but this world feels like something that might easily be turned into an RPG or such. I think you need quite a lot more content before people can start commenting for real. Have you written any stories set in th...

Re: world introduction: verlyria

fruityloops! Nice intro to your world. Thanks for taking the plunge and revealing a little bit to us! I shall give a minority opinion comment: 5/5 for your conworld. Anything with steampunk and magitek gets my attention! I also like the way you did your post: It gives a general overview of the conw...

Re: world introduction: verlyria

I like your drawing style although I'm not a big fan of having women always be portrayed as half-naked I agree with this sentiment. If you're going to do it, at least also make the men half-naked and attractive, as well. Some good beefcake can go a long way. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/2...

world introduction: verlyria

i'm a bit nervous with this one but i'm going to share it anyway. note: most of the pictures are done by me. https://i.imgur.com/9ykXBdc.png What is verlyra Velyra is the main setting of kaiego and where most of the series takes place. Things to keep in mind about this setting is: It’s a hidden worl...

Re: unconventional settings: how to get people interested

how many settings/languages have you read about and commented on on this forum? This this this. The best way to get someone to read your stuff, is to read their stuff and talk to them about it. Especially in a community such as this one. If you're around and talking with people and being a good con...

unconventional settings: how to get people interested

so recently I've just learned that a lot of people don't take interest in my setting. Now this is mostly my fault as I tend to not make the most enticing of pitches. even then, we try to say "basically Conan the barbarian meets redwall but the main races are insects, arachnid and crustaceans" after ...

By "name things" do you mean create a lexicon for your language?
pretty much. the old one felt didn't roll of the tongue or felt consistent.
