Re: (C&C) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I want to make it apparent the setting i'm doing is tribal and primitive but i don't think it's...inoffensive. the thing is my conpeople have technology fueled by magic and cobbled together tree bark, stone, leaves, grass blades.

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

hey i know this is like a really contrived reason for why I'm the way i am but....i had a brain injury way back in freshmen year, and take away my ability to visualize things as clearly now a days. it impacted my writing by a lot and i have trouble describing actions. even back then i struggle but n...

Re: world introduction: Ookraia

No one else has provided feedback yet; I will. So, this is difficult to read, just on a technical level. It looks like you're at least aware of the rules regarding capitalization and punctuation—especially in regards to dialogue—but you're applying them so inconsistently it makes it harder for me t...

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

^^ If you try to please everybody, you're going to end up pleasing nobody. Write what you want to read, and there will probably be some form of audience for it. (assuming your goal is "to make stuff I enjoy and other people might enjoy too". If your goal is purely "get as large of an audience as th...

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

I don't know ..... children's stories seem to do just fine without ever having human charatcers... e.g. Dr Seuss, whose characters embodied many humanlike traits but never appeared as humans; carebears, berenstein bears, my little pony, etc. As you intimated in the other thraed , even a species of ...

Re: The Conculture/Conpeople Opinions Thread

Can female forms be divine? What would your conpeople think of the modern Western concept of female angels? How about childlike "cherub" forms? The deities of Mto have unambiguously male (e.g. Qlazh, the Hunter) nonbinary (e.g. Inoul, the Entertainer), and unambiguously female (e.g. Anadiel) deitie...

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

As a few have already stated, the reason is because we are human, and writing about humans makes our relationship to the characters and the things they do stronger. There is much more mileage in exploring the unusual beliefs and thought processes that humans can exhibit than in making creatures who...

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

mine is not that dramatic though just an astronaut girl(she is ageless) sent to an alien world because the alien did not send any radio signals as a reply after 20 years(the aliens live on a planet 10 light years away), and when they arrived, she found the real reason why the aliens did not reply: ...

Re: world introduction: Ookraia

a lot of people requested that I do some short stories out of my conword so i went ahead and did a few. Each of them has a context explaining what’s going on as my writing style tends to be vague and very dialogue heavy. Expect many “saids” and short bouts of action. Climbing along the rock ledges ...

Re: why is it that in many fantasy stories, humans are the focus?

another idea: write a human anthropologist entering an alien world, making records about the alien culture and history. but just like quantums...when it comes to a culture, what we observe is not the culture itself, but the culture exposed to our method of questioning. it's a good idea that i have ...

newsflash: verlyria got a name change. it's now called Ookraia to better fit the theme. That, and i'm reworking my setting while thinking of doing some very short stories for the sake of interest.

really late reply, but i kinda understand what you people are coming from. maybe the solution is a nice balance between alien and familiarity that people would actually like it without putting humans in the forefront.
