Re: What are you listening to/watching?

I thought the actress playing Bobbie the Martian Marine on The Expanse seemed to have a New Zealand accent.
I looked her up and it turns out Frankie Adams really is from New Zealand. I am so proud of myself

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

home.uni-leipzig.de/zimmerma/Talks/Rep16_sl.pdf are slides about multiple CV-reduplication, just skip the theory and look at the data (e.g. 12/51). I get a “no route found” error message when I try to bring up that link. I was able to edit the URL and find the PowerPoint slideshow. (The problem is ...

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

There are two articles; the Reduplication article and the Pingelap article. Which one are you suspicious of? I agree that those things you found are suspicious. I was suspicious with less reason, I’m just always suspicious of Wikipedia, unless I can find a corroborating document. It’s still interest...

All fascinating so far! And admirable too in my opinion !

You have several (unimportant IMO) spelling errors.
If you want me to point them out, tell me how and I will.
It’s still perfectly clear what you meant.

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

OTOH AS is often misdiagnosed as: Narcissism OCD ADD/ ADHD It has some signs (and/or symptoms) in common with each of those. Both AS “patients” and ADD patients pay more attention to whatever they’re interested in than “normals” think is healthy. Sometimes we keep paying attention to it when the “no...

Can either or each of you direct me to examples of what each of you has just said?

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

BTW it might be easier to actually implement such a system if I used just 4 of “everything” instead of 6. I could get 1 + 3*4 + 3*(4*3) + 4*3*2 = 73 different case-like meanings, with: 4 case-endings (hence 5 cases, including the one with 0 case-ending), 4 prepositions, and 4 postpositions. This wou...

Might there be a better-formed name for this case?

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm not sure what it would describe, but "rereduplication" sounds better to me, personally. Me too. If one applies reduplication to something that is already the result of reduplication, that might get called rereduplication. It does happen IRL, and there is a legitimate question about it; Does it ...

A better idea for what?
For conlanging.
For coming up with a con-linguistic phenomenon that is rare or unnamed in, or missing from, RL natlangs or RL linguistics.

Or for a name for a RL linguistic “thing” that doesn’t already have as catchy a label.

Or for fun.

Re: Non-pulmonic consonants

What features do you mean? I didn't have any example in particular in mind; but if I were to give some, I'd say, unusual verb alignments, word orders other than SVO or SOV, consonant harmony, reduplication, genderlects, stuff like that. It's always pleasantly surprising to see any of those pop up i...

Adpihi don’t really have a single widely held opinion on this matter. The net effect of the various opinions they hold, is, that foreign vocabulary quickly enters the Adpihi lexicon , but its pronunciation and morphology is quickly nativized. I will speculate two possible reasons this might be so: 1...

Re: Random ideas: Morphosyntax

I really like this idea. It is innovative in a way and takes a step aways from the morpheme based - concatinative - view of meaning. If you use this idea for grammatical cases, you could probably also mark genitive, possessed noun, subjects of intransitive verbs, subjects and objects of transitive ...

So the man’s daughter’s son keeps the “Fubret-“
and the woman’s son’s daughter keeps the “Kombr-“.

Just like the Mundugumor geun (“rope”).
