Re: Are you a conlanger or a conworlder first?

Actually I started out as a conworlder when I was a kid. It was my interest in maps that started it. I would draw maps of fictional worlds, countries, states, and even detailed city maps (those coincided with my obsession with Sim City [...]). Sim City ? That's where it all started for me, as well!...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Happy birthday, Egerius! I hear 24 is awfully old in rodent years . . . It's like 240 guinea pig years, 960 brown rat years and a whopping 1920 black rat years. I think... Thank god Egerius isn't really a rodent, or he'd be superannuated indeed! Ladroman Rodentèrrans have an average life-span of 90...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

I also have heard a number of people use the word "dork" in places where I'd normally myself use either "geek" or "nerd". I'd go with “some of you would call me a “nerd”, which is fine. Others would protest and choose the word “geek” and others, still, would even go so far as to call me a “dork”. I...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I've been constructing fonts lately (using a computer program and a few manuscript photos). It took me forever finding the two hands I'd be pleased with, but I think I found the perfect match (a textura used in the Hatton Gospels, ca. 1160, Kent and a proto-gothic minuscule used in the Textus Roffen...

Either it's “I'm just gonna use the most common name in both the example and the translation, regardless of meaning” or Iyionaku just made a mistake. It's a mischief, either way.

Time flows so slow as we await things to occur, yet it is a waterfall in retrospect. An eternity hides behind yesterday and tomorrow will soon follow.
Well, today I turned 24 years old.

Re: Lesson/Guide Requests

How about beginning from the start, defining the term “romlang”? Then you'd go into the topics of geographical extent and (maybe) realism. After that, you could start with the phonology (vowels first, consonant next). Then you'd deal with the morphology, pointing to the changes from Latin to Romance...

Ælfwine wrote:Somewhat of an open ended question, but how do you guys usually conlang when going from an ancestor language to a modern language? Do you do it in stages or all at once?
I do it in stages, so I can observe the inflectional changes and, yes, loanwords can come in multiple times at different stages.
