Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Wow. In all my years, you're like the first European (outside of Scotland) or Canadian I've ever met who actually prefers unit notes to unit coins! Yup. And all this because those coins are heavy. What are these "bills" and "coins" you all are talking about? I pay for everything either with a piece...

I do, but only to the allowable limit of 50 coins (following German law).

I'd rather have 1€/2€ notes than coins, just because I like paper money.

I managed to create 3 more or less acceptable letters (<a>, <b>, <c>) for a font that should look like the script used in the Hatton Gospels.

Re: Is modern grammar writing simply better?

Actually, the latter transcription system (from Carl Faulmann's Das Buch der Schrift , second edition of 1880) was clear enough, so I could reconstruct the pronunciation of ca. 1880s England-English. And I own a copy of that book (a 2012 reprint), so I could get used to that transcription method aft...

Re: Is modern grammar writing simply better?

My biggest gripe is with grammars that use nonstandard conventions. A lot of old grammar and phonology texts have some weird transcriptions before the IPA was standardized (like ħ for ç), and even now I come across a paper or two that is well aware of the IPA but chooses not to use it for some esot...

Writing alternative lyrics for the 1300s song Bryd one Breere (Bird on a Briar). Since they are connected to my conworld Úrageard and (and I again use early southwestern Middle English), I think this gets a free pass. Status : 3/4 of stanza 1 done. Anyway. My Middle English Glossary is growing slowly, the reference grammar is stagnating at the moment (I'll get back to it soon).

I don't yet know what I'm going to do with them, but I am prepared.
