Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

How interested are people in a Hlai collablang? I have got my hands on a copy of Norquest 2007's reconstruction. I know it's difficult to participate on a collablang outside of the Romance langauges or PIE, since there's very little precedent, but I'm still optimistic.

Re: Snowflake shapes (other than H2O)

Ammonia crystals would be 3-dimensional and would probably feel more like hail or stones than snowflakes. This is because the nitrogen crystal structure would have 3 points to diverge on, while water has only 2. It's hard to explain w/o pictures.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

One question: Is this the kinda "pull" that happens when you're like seated and something in your leg twitches causing the "pull". Because if so, those things HURT. Of course, my tolerance threshold is like a 60th of an average person, so you're probably talking of something worse...

Re: 3Cons descended from a 2Cons protolang

I'm still struggling to figure out what the question really is here. I guess, if you reduce it down to a simple question it would be "Do biconsonantal roots gain consonants at random when becoming triconsonantal?". That sounds like a definite no, simply based on the fact that consonants would probab...

You don't need to crosspost to the Linguistics subforum. I think it's more reasonable to let a mod transfer the thread.

I know it's a double post, but I didn't want to put my comments on someone else's stuff and my own in a single post.
I've been working on a legitimate Hlai-lang. Right now I'm compiling a list of Proto-Hlai words. Here's the one word I've teased out from there. fa˦˩ < hwaːŋʔ

I made two new characters today, despite my leg being in constant pain, and added them to my wiki page: http://www.frathwiki.com/images/6/69/VDT-gwi.png http://www.frathwiki.com/images/1/1f/VDT-go.png They are <gwi> and <ġo>, respectively. Since the word "turtledove" in English is related to the wo...

I think my hair is like 2-3 inches long right now, which is about the longest it gets. I get it cut every 6 weeks-ish. I'm almost overdue. In even less flattering news, that makes my pubic hair (barely) longer than my head hair.

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

(But I'm not gonna pretend I know as much about biology or evolution as you! I had to Google "post plastidic" [xD] ). That doesn't sound/look like it was very helpful. Most scientific words gain context when used in speech about them, so you should try to first divide scientific words before googli...
