OK, another question (which I don't know how to phrase in Mandarin): Why do you say 你住在哪里? instead of 你在哪里住?? Don't prepositional phrases come before the verb?

也許是習慣用法,就如歐洲語言的不規則動詞般。

For me, 公路 and 馬路 are roads you can drive cars on while 街道 you may or may not. 公路 are more likely to refer to roads connecting cities than roads in cities and 公路(public road) are not private owned while 馬路 could be private owned. 街道 generally refer to smaller roads and streets with residence/shops and the term may refer to both the street and its residence/shops at the same time.
(Different dialects/regions/individuls may have differentiated these terms differently.)
