The La Jolla Playhouse version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is probably my favorite adaptation of that story into any medium. The Disney version was all well and good - excellent music, and it probably remains one of my top ten favorite animated films if I bothered to tally them up - but there are elements (*coughthegargoylescough*) that I always found a bit... obnoxious. This version takes that musical element and sticks it onto a slightly more book-inspired version of the story, and it's well-acted to boot.

Edit: Substituted a string instrument for a French interjection.

Steeleye Span - Now We are Six (album)
In case any of you have no idea who Steeleye Span are, they're basically English folk rock, and are a great interestingly different sound. They're actually still going in fact, which is impressive given that their heydays were the 70s.

Thanks for these links! I figured English Folk Rock. That's why I replied to Black Jack Davy with Jeannie Robertson's rendition of Three Gypsies. Scottish, but basically the same underlying story.Frislander wrote: ↑Sat 06 Jan 2018, 00:05Steeleye Span - Now We are Six (album)

Lovely stuff or north or south of the borders!

@ Frislander ( and everyone else, too

Reminds me of Annie Haslam and Renaissance. They were along the same vein. I remember listening to the vinyl of Scheherazade and Other Stories which my eldest sis acquired.
Some faves:
Song of Scheherazade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkJ_9oiBLAs
Mother Russia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caIM8e5m4u8
Ashes are Burning
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCpZ4OwAYVg
they were a little less folksy, a little more Prog-Rock, but defs in that early 70s experimental/prog vein.
They are also touring in some crucible-reformed configuration unto today, or thereabouts.
Another good'n from that time was Gentle Giant. They were again more Prog than folksy (though they love to infuse madrigalesque polyphony here and there), but were some damn fine musicians.
Octopus and Three Friends are the albums truest fans yikkyakk about, but my favorite is Free Hand.
Free Hand

Thanks & Enjoy!

Huun-Huur-Tu - 60 Horses In My Herd (album)
It doesn't grab my attention, but I've still got to admit, Tuvan music really floats my boat.

I'm not really a fan of 99% of the modern pop music I hear on the radio but I just stumbled on Sơn Tùng M-TP by accident and I gotta say I really dig his songs! Haven't listened to V-pop before but I hope it's all like this.
