Nope. But I'll say that it is man-made.

Material can vary but most generally, they're made of large blocks of granite.

On the right track. It is used to control water (waves) in some way.

Given that there have been no further guesses and a day has nearly elapsed, I'm willing to concede the victory to GrandPiano since he found out the literal meaning and give the meaning of the word if there are no further guesses.

No objections here. I have a very vague idea of what it might be, but I don't know how to say it in English (or any language, for that matter), and GrandPiano's done most of the guessing, so I have no problem with ending the round now.

Sounds good. The word in English is "breakwater".

GrandPiano, it's your turn.

Ah, I was thinking of something along those lines, but like Shimo, I didn’t know the word for it.

Now I need to make up a word in a Germanic lang... I might need a day or two, since this week is pretty busy for me, and I don’t have much experiences with Germanic languages. On the other hand, if Shimo wants to do a word, I’d be fine with giving the turn to him.

Would you still like to go, GrandPiano? If so, I don't mean to rush you.

Whoops, I completely forgot about this... Yeah, I think I’d still like to give this a go. Just give me a day or so to think of something.
