Ooops, I didn't see that someone had already translated German...

Well yes, there is a difference... "treten" means to "kick" and "schießen" means to "shoot", but in German "schießen" can also mean to kick a ball, for example in the sentence: "Er schoss ein Tor" = "He scored a goal." (Literally: He shot a goal)

Just stumbled onto that while boredly looking for translation challenges...

Plusquamperfekt already stated a valid point. You could additionally describe the difference between "treten" and "schießen" as a difference in motivation (or maybe telic/atelic? I'm not so certain with those). "Treten" somewhat indicates a lack of motivation, i.e. just hitting the ball out of boredom, while "schießen" gives it a more forceful and deliberate meaning.
