A fable I wrote

Post by Shemtov » Sun 06 May 2018, 05:12

I will translate this into Yiddish soon, but I want to see how your conlangs and other natlangs handle this:
There once was a king, who built a splendid palace. He wanted the perfect pet, so he bought many animals, seventy, in fact, but was satisfied with none of them, until he bought the seventy-first,the humble mouse. He built it a gold cage, and instructed the seventy (who spoke and understood human speech), not to hurt the precious mouse. Now, once there were two animals in front of the cage, a cat and a pig. The cat mauled the pig, and then began to jump in the cage and savage the mouse. There the mouse began to run away, but the pig stepped on its tail. A servant of the king came, saved the mouse, nursed it back to health, and disciplined the cat, who admitted to his crime. The mouse asked the pig: "Why did you stop me from escaping the cat?" to which the pig replied " What are you talking about? Why would I help the cat who mauled me? " When the mouse called the pig a liar, it threatened to kick it with its hoof. The servent and the mouse complained to the king about the cat and pig, respectively. Now surely the king will judge the unrepentant, lying pig more harshly then the cat, who admitted its crime.
Many children make up, or begin to make up, imaginary languages. I have been at it since I could write.

:tan: Swahili

No time for a gloss just yet but I'd like to come back to this.

Paka alimshambulia nguruwe akaruka akiingia kizimbani akamshambulia panya. Hapo hapo panya akaanza kukimbia, lakini nguruwe akamkanyagia mkio wake. Mtumishi wa mfalme akaja akamwokoa panya akamtunza mpaka alipopona tena na akamwadhibu paka, aliyekiri uhalifu wake. Panya alimuuliza nguruwe: "Mbona ulinizuia nisimtoroke paka?" Ambapo nguruwe akajibu "Unasema nini? Mbona nimsaidie paka aliyenishambulia?"

I don't remember, honestly, but I thought I read something about "church mouse" being a symbol of humility in Welsh.

"llygod eglwys" {church mice} comes up a few times, googling it again.

Compare the similarities and the differences between these two languages :p

He welde de fullkomen hausdeer, so he koopt fele deers, indaad seventig.

note:
1. /ɪt wäs i:nmɑ:ɫ/, literally means "it was once", is a start of stories in Town Speech-Plattdytch, and can be translated as "once upon a time".
2. /kɔɪkən/ "cage" is a diminuitive form of the original form /kɔɪ/, the original form cognates with Dutch kooi "cage", the original form is now archaic in most Town Speech-Plattdytch variants.

Spoiler:
There was a time long ago when there was a lonely king. Wanting to have the most wonderful pet, he
bought seventy animals of various types. But it was no good! The king was still not happy. So he
bought just one more animal, a little bunóas (a small six-legged critter). Liking it very much, he had a
little golden house built for it, and to the seventy animals he said, "let no animal touch this bunóas."

One day, while lying in front of its house, the bunóas was suddenly attacked by the cat. Swish, swish!
went the cat's paw. Frightened and wanting to run back inside its little house, the bunóas turned and
discovered that the pig was lying across the door of the house.

Fortunately, a servant of the king was nearby. He saved the bunóas, and of the cat he asked, "Why
have you done this?" The cat admitted its guilt. Then he asked the pig, but in vain. "No, I don't know
what you are talking about," it said. So the bunóas and the servant told the king all of this.

Now let the king punish the pig and the cat. Surely, the greater punishment will be for the pig that
would not admit its crime.
