Re: CVCV... langs

Heavens know I battled CVCV... constructions for a long time. This little piece uses different vowels in the last syllable of a root(?) to agglute words together. For instance, /a/ changes to /ɔ/ in the "oblique" form of the word (I call them simple and oblique "case", not sure what they are really....

Re: A Feast of Lanterns

haha, miveraj! Nammuq... Yes.. That is what I used to call it. It's got two project names, I guess, either Nammuq (or Nomuuq these days?) or Ivuuk, depending on whether I work on it for fun or in a context for the conworld. Basically it's one same continuous language as a few years ago, I just work...

Re: A Feast of Lanterns

I can't believe no one's replied to this yet - what a pity. I really love this little poem. Here's my translation into Ivuuk: iataahavvi sike japomiveruu gojna iataah sapuujare suva jima ueehajjatsegeevase kurugehumotee okke teelappa nikohe gavveluu kipivah honumeena tajjoho ojmaroj ivvejauu rojjimo...

I actually started a degree in landscape architecture today! Not sure if it counts though, as it's more of a professional degree.

And I'm 1.25 times young!

Re: Are you a systemizer or an empathizer?

Your Empathizing Quotient is 35 . Baron-Cohen (2003) suggests that this means "you have an average ability for understanding how other people feel and responding appropriately. You know how to treat people with care and sensitivity". Your Systemizing Quotient is 33 . Baron-Cohen (2003) suggests tha...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

In Nordman's song Pa Mossen, there's the lyrics " marken gungar där jag går" which literally means "the ground shakes were I go" the intention obviously being "The ground shakes under me". Is this normal usage or is this a poetic usage and normally it would be "" marken gungar under mig"? From what...

Re: Kuelea and Kuelewa

I noticed something similar in Japanese. I always thought it was interesting that the Japanese verb 分かる wakaru used the subject particle が ga , rather than the object particle を wo , which I guess would initially be more intuitive to an English speaker. So 分かる wakaru would translate as 'to be unders...

Re: Conversation Thread of the 3rd SPAM!

I didn't realize Swedish uses pitch accent until I started taking Spanish in 7th grade and wondered why names in Spanish also used in Swedish sounded so... Spanish-y. And on a conlanging note: I've had the "word" [rju:k:ai] or something in my head for a really long time and I thought I should includ...

Re: Nammuq

Yesterday I worked on dialects. This is the result: Iwuq dialects (Dropbox link). I figured a language should have at least some variations to it when actually spoken in a geographical area, even though it's a conregion. So I did my best with the limited inventory I have and what I know of phonologi...

Oh, I'm so excited about what could happen! I thought about joining - I even wrote my intro post. But then I saw the very long organization thread and I was put off a bit thinking you had perhaps already planned it out or so. I got so inspired though, I hope you guys keep it up! [:D] It's fun to read!
