Re: Language practice thread

Gestern ich war in einen Partei. Es war ein deutscher in da. Ich hätte ihm in deutsch sprechen sollen.
I was in a party yesterday. There was German guy in there. I should have spoken to him in German.

The last sentence is a mess and I've no idea how to word it otherwise.

Danke, Yagia. Leider hab ich die meistens dem Niederländisch vergessen, als wegen den nicht üben. Thanks, Yagia. Unfortunately I've forgotten most of my Dutch as a result of not practicing. :c EDIT for Iron: It's not proper to translate titles of things, and I think besonders might be a better word...

Die Band Habe ein schönes Leben ist ein trauriges Bild meinen Lebens... speziell der Lied Bluthagel.
The band Have a Nice Life is a tragic picture of my life... especially the song Bloodhail.

Don't know how to treat those damn adverbs.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I got the idea to make a descendant of some Slavic language, probably my dialect of Croatian. The general idea behind the language is to have a weird phonology with a somewhat skewed vowel inventory and a full-fledged tone system, while the morphology is replaced with new affixes and voicing contra...

Question: How did Icelandic develop the weird syllabic sonorants, and the plosives before them in some words? Example: ['hauːkʰadl̥] <hákarl>, [jœːkʏtl̥] <jökull>, etc. A ring below marks voicelesness, not syllabicness. [;)] Yea, my bad. I can't pronounce them voiceless, so I just pronounce as them...

Mütiilation - Ravens of My Funeral

This album probably epitomizes early French (or at least LLN-esque) black metal.

What is the origin of the Semitic taboo against eating pork? I considered health issues as a possible reason, but eating pigs presents the same health risks everywhere. If ancient Semites ever worshiped a hog/boar god, this would explain the taboo. However, I cannot find evidence for such a cult. I...

Re: To-Infinitive in Hebrew

I know I'm going off-topic with this, but do I detect a Sephardic/Mizrahi-ish pronunciation (kamatz as [a] instead of [ɔ])? I generally speak with an Ashkenazi accent (Cholam as [ɔj]/[oj], not [o] or [ej]), but I like distinguishing the qof [q], aleph [ʔ], `ayin [ʕ] and cheth [ħ]; bet , gimel [g], ...
