schwas assimilate to the quality of a following vowel over a glottal stop, so e.g. it's now mi‘irən "my habits, practices" rather than mə‘irən. Love this. Words with i‘i u‘u look oh-so pretty, and mi‘irən proves it. [<3] Limestone 4.0 is full of words ending in stuff like -ii’i -ao’o , etc., becaus...

Re: underused settings in world building

I think aboriginal Australia would make the perfect fantasy setting. My setting Áánene is, geographically speaking, based loosely on sth in between Australia and the Great Plains of North America. I don’t really read fantasy, because the mediaeval settings that seem to predominate are not appealing...

Li and Sandra Thompson also wrote something foundational (or is “fundamental” the better word?) about this typology.
Are you perchance looking for the word ‘seminal’ in the sense of laying the foundations for future research?

... TLFKAT ...
I know TLFKAT is an acronym for “The Language Formerly Known As T-something”
Tlííeno
but by now repeated usage has made it the language’s new name.
How do you pronounce it?
[tl̩fkat]
“Tifflecat”
“Toffeecat”

Take your pick! [:D]

Re: What did you accomplish today?

In accordance with my policy of never really making permanent decisions for any of my conlanging projects, here is my latest idea for the vowel inventory of TLFKAT: /a e i ɨ/ Now, TLFKAT has lots and lots of labialised consonant phonemes, and the four vowels are realised [wa we wi u] following such ...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

For the past 28 hours or so, I’ve been working on a new conlang that I’m calling Project Narwhal until I come up with a proper name. It has some shocking features such as a voicing contrast in stops, /d/, and both of /r l/. It has no fewer than 20 consonants, but only three vowels /a e o/. Here are ...

I want to see more, especially explanations of the formation of the basic awzaan/binyanim, and how they interact with the person markers.

Radicals delete following peripheral obstruents ( nag-ʔa → naga ; but nang-ʔa → nangʔa ). The phrasing of that rule did my head in; I parsed ‘delete’ as a transitive verb and expected your rule to do the exact opposite of what you meant. Then it clicked. [xD] Radicals exhibit disharmony: There can ...
