Re: Complementiser vs relativiser

Dal dhālmub (ma) linta sat ǔghem hǔjulu Yakal pak. I hate how the font here can't handle ̌ properly :-( What do you mean exactly? It looks fine on my end (or I have lower standards than you...) https://i.imgur.com/SogomJQ.png Oh wow. I wonder why that is. As I said, it looks as intended for me. I w...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

For the past 28 hours or so, I’ve been working on a new conlang that I’m calling Project Narwhal until I come up with a proper name. It has some shocking features such as a voicing contrast in stops, /d/, and both of /r l/. It has no fewer than 20 consonants, but only three vowels /a e o/. Here are ...

Re: Introduction to Sikwenchu

Is anything going to be done to this thread given that even the brief lessons on the last few pages were effectively an advertisement (as far as I can tell, intended to make us interested enough to buy the whole book)? I admit that I haven’t the inclination to go read up on the relevant forum guide...

Re: How NOT to Conworld.

I love the fact that this thread got necro’d or I might never have seen it. [:D] I don’t really consume much sci-fi or fantasy content. For some reason, I enjoy coming up with stuff for my conworld, and to read about and discuss conworlds in conlanging circles, but don’t really make much effort to o...

I want to see more, especially explanations of the formation of the basic awzaan/binyanim, and how they interact with the person markers.

Otherwise, there’s not enough meat here to form an opinion.

Oh, and lalaidhum is very cute. [<3]

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

Radicals delete following peripheral obstruents ( nag-ʔa → naga ; but nang-ʔa → nangʔa ). The phrasing of that rule did my head in; I parsed ‘delete’ as a transitive verb and expected your rule to do the exact opposite of what you meant. Then it clicked. [xD] Radicals exhibit disharmony: There can ...

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs

Much as I’d like to have a go at coming up with a word for the game, I just don’t foresee having time to do so because of the holidays. Therefore, if anyone would like to offer a word first, please go ahead. I’d hate to stall the game.

If this forum is all about just dreaming of the ideal language-to-be that never goes anywhere beyond the forum, then great, if that's what you want to do. This might be a major reason why your ideas are not likely to obtain a favourable reception on this forum. I apologise in advance if I sound lik...

I wonder Could any of you tell me what conlangs (especially other people's from this forum or otherwise) are your absolute favorites and why? Kiwikami’s Alál is my favourite conlang on this board. I love the aesthetic, it’s full of interesting ideas, and it is “gutsy” in that its creator has no fea...

Re: Project Limestone - Esseintial Scratchings

Phonotactics In order to keep things simple, I will restrict myself to the phonotactics of surface forms first. The maximal syllable is CVVV’C . There are no word-initial consonant clusters, and intervocalic clusters are limited to sequences of two consonants, with the sole exception of ’CC cluster...

Something I’m toying with and not sure what - if anything - to do with yet:

/m n ŋ/
/m̥ n̥ ŋ̊/
/p t s k/
/pʰ tʰ sʰ kʰ/
/ʔ h/
/l/
/ɬ/
/w j ɰ/

/a e i o u ɤ ɯ/ + length and tone

(C)(G)V(C) where coda C is one of /ŋ ʔ h/

Uh... Right. Here we go again. Thing is that I hated the last iteration of Limestone, the one I posted all of, uhm, six weeks ago. To rant a bit, I tried to use it in the latest conlang relay and it looked just awful, so I dropped out and tried to figure out what I was doing wrong. I realised that ...

I like the ascetic, but all you've done is provide a list of morphemes. How would they be used in a sentence?
From what little we’ve seen so far, I’d describe the aesthetic as anything but ascetic, what with its plethora of diacritics and thorns, but I suspect a typo was involved.
