Re: The Plains of Áánene

Gestaltist’s recent post in his conworld thread gave me the idea to post about my world from a different perspective. The Letter Year 476, Cycle 12, Day 6 Academy of Ssae-O Dear Mother, I pray this missive finds you and Father in good health, and I hope that you forgive your unfilial son for failing...

Due to sonority hierarchy, it'd be likely for clusters with liquids to also be allowed in that case. What are your thoughts on that?
Since liquids do not occur in Ch’eweyõw̌e, this shouldn’t be a problem. [:D]

A Sinister Plot is Hatched... Remember how I said there weren’t going to be any consonant clusters apart from those CG onsets (which barely even count)? You probably don’t, but I do. Well, I’ve thought of a splendid way to cheat! I’m considering analysing m n as glides and therefore eligible for th...

Possible romanisation for Project Silt, which somewhere along the way lost labialised velar consonants and glottal stops, but gained a slightly asymmetrical nine-vowel system: /m n ⁿɖ ⁿd͡ʑ ŋ/ m n nz~dz nj~j ng /t k/ t k /s̪ s̠ ɕ/ s z sh /ɸ θ ɻ̊ h/ f þ rr h /β ð ɻ/ b d r /ɬ̪ ɬ̠ ʎ̥/ ł łz łh /l̪ l̠ ʎ/ ...

Re: The Esseintial Ch’eweyõw̌e Blog

Some Morphophonology Time for Tame Morfofo As some of you may know, I love the morfofo. (That rhymed! And it’s in iambic hexameter!) Nevertheless, I must say that the open syllables and general feel of this language have made me want to keep the morfofo quite tame this time. That’s not to say there...

The Esseintial Ch’eweyõw̌e Blog

Welcome to the Esseintial Ch’eweyõw̌e Blog! In here I’m going to scribble tidbits about a new conlang of mine called, you guessed it, Ch’eweyõw̌e. It’s great, so read on! I’m probably going to just present whatever I’m thinking about. This is all very new and up in the air, so things will be in flu...

I think for vowels you could do /i e o a/ or /e o a/ and I love the contrast between dental and lowered/retroflexish sibilants (or whatever the line under them is), laterals, and lateral fricatives.
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, you may be right that /a e o/ would work well here.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Double post! I just added clicks to my conlang Ch’eweyõw̌e and managed to come up with a romanisation I’m satisfied with. The entire inventory now looks like this: /m n/ m n /m’ n’/ m̌ ň /p t t͡s t͡ʃ k ʔ/ p t c ch k ’ /p’ t’ t͡s’ t͡ʃ’ k’/ p’ t’ c’ ch’ k’ /ʘ ǀ ǁ/ cp’ ct’ cc’ /s ʃ x h/ s sh x h /z ʒ ɣ...

/l lʲ ɫ/ <l ly ll>
Is there any reason not to romanise /t͡ɬ/ simply <tl>? It looks to me as if that would make the romanisation more regular and symmetrical.

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

What I have so far on a consonant inventory I’m assembling this evening; I’m aiming for a very large number of continuants with a minimal amount of occlusives. /m n ŋ ŋʷ/ /t k kʷ ʔ ʔʷ/ /s̪ s̠ ɕ h hʷ/ /ɸ θ ɻ̊/ /β ð ɻ/ /ɬ̪ ɬ̠ ʎ̥/ /l̪ l̠ ʎ/ /j w/ I originally thought I’d just do five vowels, but I’m ha...
