Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Like the orc language from LOTR, they made it to sound evil. Sounds we associate with things often dictates what words mean. Like "little" has front vowels and the dental plosive (i think its a plosive, though in some dialects its a glottal stop) and the lateral approximate which makes it sound.. W...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
So i'm trying to make a conlang that is meant to sound more evil for dark magic users. I have a phonology i'm fairly happy with (not entirely sure if my symbols are exactly what i think they are, but i'm pretty sure). Here's my phonology and a few sample words. You'll notice i haven't assigned a me...

Re: The ancient pre-columbian drug exchange
A little more research yielded some very.. Bazaar results. To start a wikipedia article on the pre-columbian travel depicts kon tiki (as i referenced earlier) and gives some skeptics view points as well, attempting to dismiss the occurences, nevertheless possible. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-...

Re: The ancient pre-columbian drug exchange
Very very possible. Many of you clearly never saw the movie "kon tiki" which was based off of a true story where a scientist wanted to prove that native americans actually sailed across the pacific ocean and colonized polynesia. The scientist built a balsa wood raft and used the ocean currents from ...

Re: Greatest conquerors in history
I'd like to point out that, in Islam Women cannot divorce very easily: khula is only permitted when their husband (never a wife; homosexuality (and polyandry, but not polygyny) has not had sex with her for two months or more or if she is deprived of food and shelter; however, a male merely has to s...

Re: Greatest conquerors in history
Awesome; does 'come' work as a double-entendre in Latin, or is it just a fortuitous coincidence when used with English? Do/did Latin verbs have gender, though? Definitely not. Come doesn't mean "cum" in anyway, but latin did have hundreds of words to describe sexual acts and every body orifice (nam...

Re: Internet linguistics
I feel like that's an overly blanketed statement. There are very few places on in the internet i can actually have an intellectual discussion with someone, 4chan is one of them. Taylor swift even goes to 4chan (though she'll never admit it the evidence i've seen is enough). I guess what i'm saying i...

Re: Internet linguistics
newfags People actually use this horrible term to mean "newb"?! When it comes to 4chan, think of it as an honorific or moreso like a sign of kinship. >newfags >oldfags >moderatefags >op is always a fag >everyone on 4chan is a fag Its pretty much a rule of 4chan that you are a fag. Period. Unless yo...

Re: Internet linguistics
I don't but that's something to work on! As far as "internet linguistics", i think its just an increased rate of the evolution of language due to the sharing of ideas. Think about how much sense this sentence actually makes: "he was talking a mile a minute!" If you take it complete and grimacingly l...

Re: AMA about the Folk of the Broken Empire
Tell me more about the empire before it split. What was the culture like? How was it founded? What was its government like? How did it become so great? We all know succession is never the sole reason for a split, so what other factors played into its fragmentation? Has technological progress slowed?...

Songs in your conlang
Here we post songs that we translated into our conlangs. If you can't think of a song, translate the one in the post before you. Make sure to include the song name and artist. Poems are acceptable, if you don't know or don't remember the artist just say "anonymous" for the artist. If you are the son...
