Re: Have you created any idioms in your conlangs? What are some examples?

There are no idioms in my conlang. It is a direct and straight-to-the-point language. Furthermore, the native speakers believe that if one wants to obfuscate words and speech, there are already many ways to do it via reroutes and deceptive talking. However, there are folk sayings, which are just mes...

^There is no such relationship in that other natlang that I speak (you win!). It just uses per, ie: number per number, or like percent.

imo using ordinals for fractions is just silly [O.o]

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

@ "trigger languages". I've read multiple times, Here and on the Other Board, that it's not quite about focus, and there was that big discussion about "conlang trigger alignment" and "real trigger alignment", sparked by a series of posts on the Ayeri blog . In the series the author concluded that "...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

@Reyzadren Is it right to call it ‘passivisation’ though, in trigger langs, if there is no valence change? It is not more so a question of ‘focus-shifting’? Triggers aren't focuses. Some triggers do focus, but not all (eg, the triggers in my conlang don't focus at all). Also, most trigger natlangs ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The number of arguments a verb takes is called its valency. Passivisation is an example of a valency-changing operation - namely, to reduce the number of arguments by one. So the phrase "The fire burned me" (which has a valency of 2) would passivise into "I was burned" (valency of 1). The agent of ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

My own favourite conlang for myself has all the linguistic features that I want, except its logical restrictions ofc. It's not perfect or ideal, but I don't expect it to be. Still, I can use it proficiently and appropriately whereby I can't find such satisfaction any natlang or other conlang. Howeve...

I’m not active on reddit, so I’m afraid I can’t comment on that. I highly doubt people have a “seething hatred” of you and your conlang, unless your behaviour on reddit differs significantly from your behaviour here. Same. I am much more inactive on reddit as compared to the CBB. I normally just po...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

Apparently, I've been shadowbanned on reddit's conlang site for...no apparent reason. I guess that really tells me how much other conlangers have a seething hatred and contempt of me and my conlang, such that they would need to censor my replies and discussion on that "social media". Perhaps your co...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The answer is 0. Ie, "John fight snake". This might seem strange to you, but nobody speaking this natlang ever spams "I am a past tense" (or the other ways) in every sentence, even when it is obvious from the translation that there was a past tense involved. The natlang simply doesn't care. In fact...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Speaking of which, how do langs with no tense and only aspect convey a generic past tense? Do they use perfective aspect? Wouldn't that just make it a tense anyways? For example how would they say "John fought the snake?" Langs without tenses don't convey tenses because they don't need to. Most con...

Re: Language practice thread

I don't practise in those threads because I'm not good at natlangs and there are many people here that can speak that language proficiently. Whenever I try to speak it, it just ends up being a relex anyway. Note: I'm assuming you meant languages that we are learning, not other natlangs that we are ...
