Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is it possible for a conlang to have two methods of inflections used almost exclusively for that particular part of speech? Like say, agglutinative nouns, yet fusional verb forms?

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

So, from what I understand of what you wrote here, you started with the alphabet and then assigned sounds to letters and sequences of letters? If your aim is naturalism, it's probably a better idea to go the other way around: every natural language is spoken before it is written, and no natural lan...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Are there historical reasons for them? For instance, Spanish spells /k/ as <c> and <qu> because Latin /kʷ/ <QU> lost its labialization, and English spells /i/ as <ee> (among other things) because Middle English /e:/ <ee> was raised. At the moment, there's no historical reasoning. I was just thinkin...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

OK, couple of things. Firstly overall I think this is fine. The absence of velars is perhaps a little weird, but I assume *k became the velar fricative, in which case this is fine because you have an explanation for the gap. I also don't mind the high-mid instead of high vowels, though I wouldn't b...

Thank you for the information, that helps immensely. Additonally, apologies for the delay, post-Christmas hustle and bustle and what not, haha.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I just wanted feedback on this sound inventory, if it seems naturalistic or not.I'm making another protolang while I think about what I want to do with my first one. I apologize if this is formatted incorrectly as well! Plosive: /p b t c ɟ/ <p b t c/k j> Nasal: /m ɱ n ɲ ŋ/ <m ɱ n na ng> Tap/Flap: /ɾ...

A Question About Wordbulding

I'm at a point to where I think I have most of the grammar basics down, and I think I should try making words to see exactly how things work, rectify them, etc. Thus, I'm trying to do wordbuilding and flailing about like I can't swim, really. So apologies if the question below seems inane. I guess m...

Re: Are your main conpeople human or of a different species?

My conpeople (Kisians) are essentially humanoid catfolk in terms of species. They've got prehensile tails, their fur color and thickness changes depending on season; they're also rather tall, with a range of heights from about 7'2" to 8'5".

Re: What did you accomplish today?

In a fit of inspiration over the past few days, I got back into the protolang for my fictional species, called Qianshogō, but I suppose more to the point...

Today I worked a bit on fleshing out how I wanted questions to be formed and I've at least made a list of basic conjunctions.

Re: What are you listening to/watching?

Several years later, I've started to watch The Office on Netflix (on Season 3 right now). I'd intended to for years, but never really got around to it. I wish I had sooner though, as I'm liking it immensely!

Re: Introduction thread(s)

Hi, I go by Random8k or Random, people call me either. I got into conlanging (although I didn't know it was called that) some years ago, when I was learning Spanish in high school. I like to worldbuild, and I have a fictional world with a race of cat-people that I've been working on and off over the...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

This is from Qianshogo, a protolang that I want to use to derive a conlang from. /m n ŋ/ /b t d k g q/ /tʃ / /s z ʃ ʒ x h/ /ɹ/ /i ɯ/ /e o/ /ɛ/ /a/ There's also a few other diphthongs: /ai ou/ Syllable structure is (C1)V1(C2)(V2)(F). Consonants always have to come with a vowel, and F indicates a grou...
