Re: Zuteräq, a language of colours

Transitivity The subject of an intransitive verb can take either the agentive or patientive case. Some verbs are specifically stative; stative verbs take patientive subjects: nem ehaliommä (1pl. pat sleep-1pl.past) we slept [sleep is an uncontrollable state that you can't actively choose to enter -...

Re: Zuteräq, a language of colours

Nouns I'll be updating this post with more noun info as it comes, for now here's a summary of how Zutan nouns work and a bit about noun classes and number. As a fluid-s active-stative language, Zutan inflects its nouns quite significantly. There are four base cases: agentive, patientive, and locati...

Zuteräce, a language of colours

I've already posted different versions of the inventory of this language in one or two places, but now I'm finally including it in context! I'd love any feedback, comments or criticism, so please fire away with your thoughts, positive or negative! Introduction Zuteräce (['ɕʊt̪ɛɾac͡çɛ], anglicised as...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The process calylac has described, I could imagine as a kind of dissimilation. That's what I'd chalk up the reduction in unstressed syllables to. ...a phenomenon whereby similar consonants or vowels in a word become less similar. That actually makes sense! May have to rethink the rounding of the fr...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

[Copied and corrected from Quick Questions] So I've kind of revamped the entire phonology of my conlang recently and I'm needing external opinions! Does this all seem naturalistic/realistic/sensible/[adjective]? I feel like the vowels are quite asymmetrical (6 front vowels vs. 3 back vowels and 3 ce...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

You might get more responses here . Ahh, I knew there was a phonology thread somewhere, I just completely missed it somehow. I'll ask there too! I don't see /ɶ/ listed with the vowels below. Yeah, you got me—I was quite haphazardly typing this out from some written notes, where it looks like /ɶ/ sl...

So I've kind of revamped the entire phonology of my conlang recently and I'm needing external opinions! Does this all seem naturalistic/realistic/sensible/[adjective]? I feel like the vowels are quite asymmetrical (6 front vowels vs. 3 back vowels and 3 central/near-back). All constructive criticism...

Re: 3 Active-stative questions and 1 other

I could be completely wrong about this, but from what I can remember, fluid-S alignment only affects the marking on intransitive subjects, not transitive agents or patients, where the intransitive subject can either take the "agent" marking or the "patient" marking depending on things like volition...

Re: Introduction thread(s)

Hey! I've actually already posted elsewhere, asking some questions in the conlang forum, but I guess I should probably introduce myself here too - or perhaps re-introduce, since I actually used to post here under a different account a few years ago, but I wanted to start afresh since my conlang has ...

3 Active-stative questions and 1 other

Hello! I was initially posting this in the quick questions thread but then it became not-so-quick, so voilà. I'm shifting my 8-year-old conlang towards a fluid-S active-stative alignment 'cause I think it's cool to be able to distinguish for volition and causality and such, and also to have verbs wi...
