Re: underused settings in world building

The obvious answer, as it pertains to fantasy novels, is probably "for urban fantasy, anything not set in either the US or England" and "for non-urban fantasy, anything not set in faux-medieval Europe". Those two types of settings are so overrepresented in fantasy novels that literally anything els...

Re: How NOT to Conworld.

personally don't hate the dnd-esque races all that much. but i never used them in my conworlds as i find it more fun to make up my own or take inspiration from more obscure myths. all that matters is the execution and you're golden. or just have humans who were the result of a caste system crafted b...

Re: (C&C) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

alot of my conworlds aren't really all that realistic but i might keep this in mind for some interspecies breeding.

since in my urban fantasy setting, demons aren't really a species in the traditional sense explaining why half demons can still reproduce young.

Re: (C&C) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm doing some world building and i wanted to avoid the unfortunate implications of calling other completely different sapient beings as "races", opting to use "species" instead. my only real problem is how can i explain how hybrids happen between different species?

alternate ways to say "tribal fantasy"

Dragon's dawn is a bit different from the many settings that use the dragon riders trope. One thing is the setting is more....dare I say, "tribal". not like tribal divisions, like face paint, slightly stone age tech (mixed with more advanced things), etc etc. my only real problem is a find the word ...

Re: Terngatta or dragon's earth

if you got any suggestions please tell me. it's kinda new in a sense and i'm still refining it. It feels like you have a lot of players, and a sense of setting, but I don't have a good idea of what the conflict of the setting is. (e.g. the Dragonriders of Pern series, which is also dragon riders in...

Re: Are your main conpeople human or of a different species?

i know i posted one before, but my newest conworld has humans in it (this is the darkest time like indeed). more specifically, humans who can ride on dragons. the twist here is that they don't have those special bonds you see in other dragon rider media. really, the dragon is more like a smart horse...

conworlder first and foremost. conlangs are just a crazy as poop process that i don't even bother anymore. con worlds are more fun anyway [:D].

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Well, Mothfolk in question apparently have no problem "... wear(ing) silk from other races than their own. they find it rude to wear your slik." Then you see my point. Either wearing the silk of your dead speciesmates only rises to the level of “rude” for the moths (possible, just probably an impor...

Re: Music in my con world, how about yours?

all they do is rub their wings together to make music. they're bug people after all. But unlike actual bugs, since they're people, they could also devise and play actual musical instruments. They could perhaps also sing to the accompaniment of their wing-drone. specifically, me hopaki people tend t...
