Re: Damta: A collaborative world

So I think what I will do number-wise is have a parallel system in place for a while that uses the Txabao numbers, but later on there will only be a single system left, but some Txabao numbers replace native ones. Two candidates from the cardinal numbers I have already picked are 2 and 5: /h'ihin/ (...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Seeing as most of you have already made made Janko happy, I must follow! Cardinal numbers up to ten in the spoiler 1 ku Probably related to “kus” (= “thumb”) 2 za Probably related to “zas” (= “foot/leg”) 3 uz etymology unclear 4 nam etymology unclear 5 hihin Reduplicated plural of “hin” (= “finger”)...

Re: English Dialects

Less on the lines of phonology, but I just wanted to share my favourite thing from up here in Yorkshire, which is the word "gizzit", a contraction of "give us it" where "us" means "(to) me" [:P] Same in Scotland! The usual written form is "gies it". It can also be used for the original 1PL meaning ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I would expect at least some sort of similar change outside that context. A lot of languages have redundancy that survives for thousands of years. e.g. -os and similar endings in Greek and Baltic, the /de la/ of Spanish (vs Portuguese /da/), etc.. Portuguese contracted /de la/ to /da/, but only by ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

As an aside, I am not 100% yet about all the sound changes and when they will take place, but by around 9,000 the word will likely have changed to /a'bu:z/, provided I've done the tentative sound changes correctly in my head. That's quite a change, but definitely not too big a change for a thousand...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

In these wars, referred to as /mɛ.ʔu.at/ (struggle away [from the established order]”) in Proto-Bokisig, the camel cavalries of the Txabao were no match for the hunter-gatherers, and the Txabao managed a series of quick conquests. Do you mean "The hunter-gatherers were no match for the camel cavalr...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Okay, so finally a conworldy post by me! The words in IPA are Proto-Bokisig (which is what I will call Proto-BLSL from now on), but will still undergo quite a bit of sound change chaos before the classical stage. The /bo’kisig/ empire descended from hunter-gatherer tribes that had been populating t...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

So I've been fairly quiet as I've been quite busy, but will hopefully be more active again. Currently working on some con-history, but nothing to really put out there yet. At least I already snatched a word from a collaborator here - /'nedu/ from the Txabao camel goddess "Neidu", and I will use /ne'...

Would 8000 PS or 7500 PS be an acceptable compromise? I think I could convincingly place the oldest language in its phylum "crown group" that far back.
Forgot to reply to this, shall we go with 8000 PS then? [:)]

let's set the physical parameters for the planet, the moon and the star the same as the Earth, the Moon and the Sun of our world, so that we would not consider how physical conditions would affect the general climate and biological evolution, is it ok?
I would second that!

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

Possibly, it would mostly serve to justify the introduction of changes in the kinship and religion system (exogamy and later a moiety system between religious groups) that foster alliances and a more unified rule amongst the tribes / clans, though not quite centralisation yet. So eventually everyon...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

@brblues: So this would be like the Oscans to the Romans, sort of, right? Maybe a people who speaks an offshoot of Txabao would work. Possibly, it would mostly serve to justify the introduction of changes in the kinship and religion system (exogamy and later a moiety system between religious groups...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

I've now decided to settle my people in the savannah in E4, where they invent the wheel, so that Khemehekis' desert-people can come into contact with it after I've also settled the highlands not far from his desert home area. As a catalyst towards unification of some sort, I would like to have eithe...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I got a quick question about not!sound changes - when I delete a grammatical ending (i.e. do not delete the same string if it doesn't stand for the specific grammatical ending, in my case here IPFV), thats not a sound change as I understand it, since it is not applied universally without exception. ...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

Another map-related thought: We should get something else next IMO, which might also affect the climate somewhat - determining the relief of the terrain, initially I would restrict that to the areas shaded in grey, which can be highlands or mountains. I would suggest shading the mountain ranges in a...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

I should be able to help with that. I made the original map with the grid layers in photoshop and have the layers. Could you compile the changes in one little list that you have in mind? I was mostly referring to Zekoslav's last post including only a few more suggestions . That would be amending th...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

I tried to revise the climate map using GIMP so that the climate zones would be present as a layer that can be removed, but unfortunately failed. If anybody wanted to assist and amend the climate map incorporating all the updates, it would be great, but I can also try again at some other point other...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm currently researching on split-ergative alignments for my project and I've come up with a new idea, not sure if naturalistic enough though. It would show animacy-based split-ergativity on nouns but pure ergativity on verbs (the language has polypersonal agreement). Noun animacy-based split-erga...

Re: Any interest in starting a collaborative project?

In another option, I also wouldn't mind "playing" the inventor of the wheel and to originally hail from E4. Khemehekis' desert peoples, being located in the deserts to the west of the highlands/mountains, could then come into contact with the invention as intrepid explorers to my area, use it for t...
