Re: Nlokian 3

NOUNS & PRONOUNS: Nlokian has a moderately high degree of synthesis, with nouns getting inflected into ten grammatical cases (Intransitive, Ergative, Accusative, Genitive, Dative, Instrummental, Commitative, Locative, Ablative and Allative) and three numbers (Collective, Singulative and Distrubutiv...

Nlokian 3

So here comes my third attempt to present may a-priori latest conlang Nlokian, which has undergone major changes since last time I posted anything on the matter. As even phonology has been modified, I'll start from there. PHONOLOGY: ¶Classical Nlokian: •Phonetic Inventory: /m n ɲ ŋ/ /p b t̪ d̪ c ɟ k...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Hello. I've been having some problems regarding code display, since I just don't know how to use it. I know that there's an image explaining the process (or at least that's what I think) at the Rules for Posting Conlangs topic. Although, I just can't see the image, whatever I try, seems like I cann...

Compound generator thread

Hello. Quite recently, I started wondering what kind of roots could provide semantical meaning for certain compounds, such as abstract concepts like "enthropy", to give a clear (not quite common, though) example. Which roots would derive or attach together in order to create such complex vocabulary?...

Re: Could [ l̰ ], [n͡l], [lⁿ] and [nˡ] be the same phoneme?

Thank you very much, Creyeditor. I'm sorry for not answering before, in fact I was quite embarrassed after realising that my question was worse than silly... Anyway, I have come up with a new pair of doubts about phonology so far: •Would it be sensible to use a set of obstruents where some of them a...

Could [ l̰ ], [n͡l], [lⁿ] and [nˡ] be the same phoneme?

While trying to create a set of lateral consonants for my conlang, Nlokian, I noticed that the digraph "nl" in its name wasn't just a pair of separate phonemes. Try to pronunce [n] and [l] simultaneously. The problem is I found nothing on the Internet about nasalized lateral approximants so I quite ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm assuming plain < ā > is already being used, so have you considered < a̋ > or < â >? I think I'll take the one with the circumflex. Thanks for that. And another question: can collective, singulative, singular and plural numbers exist and a same language? Would it be logical or naturalistic to us...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Sorry for my previous question, I don't know what I was thinking on. Next question: which letter would you use to romanize an stressed [æ] sound? First, an unestressed [æ] is spelled as <ä> in my conlang, and I use macrons to mark stress. Though I know <ǟ> is used in some languages' romanizations, I...

Re: Á Quetë Quenyanen!

Hello. Nearly three months ago I studied Quenya and did some translations. I would be really pleased if someone could correct this one; Goethe's "Erlkönig". Translations into English (the last by Edgar Alfred Bowring) are below the Quenya text. Hope you find something [:)] . •Man nortëa acca telwa t...

Re: Nłokjenkaitää discussion thread.

Ok so that's clear now, thank you. Now I have another doubt: is it effective to some point to mark noun definiteness sintactically instead of using a declension? And another question: in a language with more than one noun declension, are cases' suffixes very different between a declension and anothe...

Re: Ą̈väriäŋką̈itää: an introduction.

And how could I fit passive or antipassive voices in a tripartite alignment (ergative, accusative and unmarked intransitive)? Can both voices coexist in a language's verbal system? Yes. It happens that the passive is more readily useful in nominative-accusative languages, and the antipassive is mor...
