Re: On a meaningless world

You mean like in Europe? Earth cultures have a lot of variance. You need to be more specific with "humans".... They are from a europe-ish nation neighboring to the west. They have a strong emphasis on knights and honor. I havn't really fleshed much more than that, since I wanted to focus on Saltha....

Re: On a meaningless world

Hopefully this isn't a hijack (or maybe it's a good thing?), but what this made me think of was my own con-culture of Saltha, and the problem I've been seeing for a while and the reason I basically abandoned it, is too much focus on a few themes. I'm not really sure where I went wrong. I wanted to h...

Re: Names

In Saltha, children are given a name at birth, along with their father's name, the city they are from or their clan. On the day they come go through the coming of age ritual (at the age of 10, this is not the same as being age of majority), they take for themselves a second name, that has some speci...

Re: alcoholic beverages in concultures?

Interesting thread idea. I think I may have thought about this once or twice before, but I can't remember where or what the results were… if they come back to me, I might post them if I have anything to say about them. I'm not very familiar with the making of alcoholic beverages (or with alcohol in...

Re: conlangs with homophones

(I hope it's okay to bump this, rather than starting a new topic, not sure which is preferred here) This is a problem I've been having recently with my conlang. For example the word Kakel can mean the nouns rock, shield and wall, and also the verbs to protect and to withstand but I'm not sure how to...

Re: alcoholic beverages in concultures?

A popular sort of drink in Saltha is Hodnaksashe , or cactus wine. It's made from the fermented juice of the Sudnin cactus plant, a yellowish-green cactus that has been domesticated. It has a very simple flavor of slight bitterness with a node of citrus that is well balanced. This wine is said to ha...

((I love this sort of thing! I assume doing snippets, when appropriate (and translating) parts of language is alright, I assume you just mean don't talk exclusively in your conlang). The only kind of slavery in Saltha is debt slavery, that is what you would call "hard labor" sentences for crimes or debt. Saltha has been for a long time very isolationist and then became a democracy soon after, so it didn't have the contact with other nations required for inter-racial slave trade...

Saltha Yes, no - Salthans will "bob" their head, moving their entire head down and up to show acknowledgement. However, Bobbing the head up and down quickly multiple times is a sign of contempt/dominance/authority. Salthans will shake their head for no. Greetings, farewells, getting attention, ackn...

Re: Physiology and societies of your non-human conpeoples

These are great questions! This let me put a little more detail into my con-species. Salthans are carbon-based life-form that shares similarities to both human and reptillian form. Salthan's bodies are covered in small overlapping scales that are green or red depending on the race of Salthan. Saltha...

The Sylvanians (cat people) find democracy confusing. Why would you have everyone have equal power? Of course everyone should get their say, but ultimately it should the strongest in the group who makes the decision, preferably one who is the right mix of experience of age, but not so old he lacks t...

Re: Debate (Conpeople vs Conpeople)

Salthans are extremely democratic, as a result of abuses from worse and worse monarchic rulers. Those 20 years old or older may vote. Every 5 years they elect city officials, senators and members of the national senate, and executives at each of those levels. Salthan politics is made up of many many...

Finished watching the miniseries "Over the garden wall", which is really good (and I loved the soundtrack). I've been also watching the board game review series "shut up and sit down" again (I fell behind and want to catch up) and the anime Kino's Journey (partly to getting mood/inspiration for a ga...

Nenksadacha A popular sport that is simular to soccer (football) and baseball. One team is trying to kick the ball into a goal to score points, while the other team is trying to either kick the ball out of bounds, or in an opposite goal gives that team control. Players are allowed to push opponents...

Either way you want, though it makes sense to try to mimic a newspaper (or other news source like a news reel) from your conworld.
