Re: Debate (Conpeople vs Conpeople)

People of the Harracks (subterranean network of tunnels and settlements) It sounds like a fine idea but we can't afford to live with such luxuries. We must rely on our engineers to keep the Harracks running. An un- or under qualified leader in the position of power would soon lead to the destructio...

I think this forum is primarily meant for discussions about conlangs, in English. For discussions in conlangs, there is the conlang conversation thread, as well as the "other languages" section. Then it should be moved, should not it? Cisa. Me saluta aceles ci conose o vole aprende LFN e espera par...

Re: That awkward moment when you...

I rediscovered mine after I thought it was lost. Just an alternative way to write English really. I should take a picture amd share it some day.

I do remember it was based on the movements of my mouth, so there's various simplified representations of lips, teeth and tongue!

Re: The Most Average Conlang Ever

I've been wondering how to merge English, French and Spanish. I sort of had an idea about the phonology, but I didn't know how I should decided things about the grammar. This thread has given me the idea to compare the three trough CALS and use the most common elements. So now I have a place to star...

Short iy eo æɑ Long i:y e:o æ:ɑ In terms of length I suppose the short dipthongs could be as long as the long vowels, but in comparison with the long dipthongs they are "short". Edit: I noticed a short/long difference in my dipthongs recently when I say house and houses: [hæʊ̯s hæːʊ̯.zɪ̈z] I'm not ...

Re: Where is that accent from?

Sounds pretty RP to me, so could be from anywhere. I've met a North Welshman with an RP accent, and heard a few examples of "Scotsmen" and "Yorkshire men" spouting on about their proud Northern/Scottish ancestry with toff accents. But I would guess they have some Southern influence. Just a gut feeli...

Re: Where is that accent from?

I may recognise three or four Austrailian accents. 1. Crocodile Dundee or Dame Edna accent, includes much of the cast of Neighbours and Home and Away 2. "whiney", NZ-ish one, a bit like the Australian bloke on The Boat that Rocked or Claire on Lost 3. RP with an Australian twang (Harold Bishop, more...
