Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

This is not a phonology but a question about rhotics within a phonology. Most of the time I see a language has a single rhotic whether it is a trill, tap, lateral flap, or approximant. Where languages have more than one rhotic they are typically of the same mode of articulation. But I just wanted op...

Re: Interesting Ideas

I had an idea for numeracy amongst a humanoid alien species co-habiting my conworld. There are separate bases depending on what one's counting. I'm thinking there will be 3 or 4 bases: Base 27 counting their own species, used in their census, head counting for their military operations, or just if y...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

I was looking at Proto-Indo-European and then I was toying around with the idea of mixing in elements of Laghuu and perhaps something more close to an Australian Aboriginal Language, specifically a little Enindhilyagwa thrown in there for good measure. And this is what I ended up with: Consonants /p...

Re: Tséeto / Sayeto Grammar (work in progress)

Nice! No labial stops! Intrigue! How does stress work? Do some vowels merge when unstressed? Can long vowels appear unstressed? Are there any harmonies, say between dentals and retroflexes? Firstly, thank you for your kind words! Secondly, I am still working out the stress. I have thrashed through ...

That's approximately my pronunciation really. My final <t> sounds typically are realized as glottal stops.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Thank you. I did read the Hiatus article on Wikipedia but apparently not well enough I skimmed over the part with using glottal stops to break up hiatus.

I suppose my ear isn't attuned well to the difference between hiatus and a glottal stop. I'll practice. Thanks again.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is vowel hiatus the same as having an intervening glottal stop?

It says in the definition that there's not intervening glottal stop but maybe I'm accidentally producing a glottal stop as opposed to truly using hiatus.

Working through Rauða

I've been struggling to keep my current conlang Rauða from breaching too far into kitchen-sink or philosophical language territory because it's supposed to be spoken by a group of people for a fictional setting on an exceedingly Earth-like world.
