Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I've been working on a conlang that developed high and low tones in stressed syllables additionally to normal tones. The problem is that I now want to get rid of those tones but I just don't want them to go away because they should leave something else behind. One idea I had was that the tonal langu...

Well, when you're aroused, you become erect, so I'm not sure if they're false friends or just friends with benefits. I had to.
I guess you could say that if you're aroused, you'll get an Erregtion. I had to as well.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I finished the numbers from one to ten in a small Slavic conlang project of mine. No orthography yet because I can't find a way that doesn't look like a mess. 1- [ˈja.d̪ʲɔn̪] 2 - [ˈd̪ɔ.vo] 3 - [ˈt̪r(ʲ)aj] 4 - [ˈt͡ɕi.t̪ər] 5 - [ˈpʲã(n̪)t̪] 6 - [ˈɕis̪t̪] 7 - [ˈɕi.d̪əm] 8 - [ˈvʲi.s̪əm] 9 - [ˈd̪ʲi.vʲã(n...

Re: Pronunciation vexation confessions.

I'm having difficulties with dental fricatives in English when they're close to or [z]. I just can't help but mix them up, especially when I say "This is the". That's pure pain. I have a similar problem whenever I try to speak Polish because I mix up [ɕ], [ʑ], [ʂ] and [ʐ]. And every word containing ...

Re: Language practice thread

Aujourd'hui dans mon cours de français, j'ai dit que j'apprend un peu de portugais dans mes loisirs, donc on avait une discussion sur les langues romanes. Today in my French class I said that I learn some Portuguese in my freetime, so we had a discussion about Romance languages. Tout les cours m'a ...

Je me rappelle que l'apprentissage de l'usage de l'imparfait était très difficile pour moi. Je l'avais dû beaucoup pratiquer avant que je l'aie compris et je m'en efforce encore de temps en temps I remember learning the usage of the imperfect was very difficult for me. I had to practice it a lot be...

Je trouve les temps français très facile mais je suppose que c'est plus facile pour une anglophone native que les parleurs de beaucoup d'autres langues I think that French tenses are very easy but I guess it's easier for a native English speaker than speakers of a lot of other languages Ben, je sui...

Merci beaucoup pour ces corrections! Thank you for your corrections! La production orale n'est pas le plus difficile pour moi. Le plus difficile, c'est clairement la compréhension orale. Les français parlent trop rapide. Speaking isn't the hardest part for me. The hardest is definitely listening. T...

Oui. Quand un verbe est au passé composé avec "avoir" comme auxiliaire, le participe passé s'accorde avec l'objet direct à condition que l'objet précède le verbe. Yes. When a verb is in the passé composé with "avoir" as the auxiliary, the past participle agrees with the direct object as long as the...

Re: Tungōnis Vīdīnōs - Proto-Germanic goes Romance!

Comments: You could use the stressed forms for deriving emphatic pronouns as they occur e.g. in French <moi> vs. <je>. That's a possibility. I already thought about deriving the emphatic pronouns from either the stressed accusative forms or the dative. 2. I thought the infinitives in Germanic langu...

First of all, I love your conlang! It seems really realistic because of its spelling and its unpredictable pronunciation (for me at least [:D]). I like the latest vocabulary lists you posted a lot as well! Regarding the Pokémon names: Thank you for translating some names! [<3] I really like them, es...

!!! [<3] OMG I thought I was the only one translating Pokémon names into his conlangs! [:D] This is something I would definitely do, but I worry I'd get bogged down trying to make the names clever. [:$] I'd be really interested in how some Silvish Pokémon names would look like! Would you ever trans...
