Same phoneme, two lines

I have my conlang, Snafu, where it has the nasal series [m mʷ n ŋ ŋʷ]. I want to derive the whole labialized series from an earlier version, where the series did not exist until whatever spawned it. The orthography is <Co>. The original phonology only had [m n] as nasals; did not have [ŋ], where is ...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

But what the fresh hell is [wʷ]? A more compressed W?

Strangest word forms.

To whomever wishes to reply...

What is your project's most bizarre word form? (You know, those things that break even the rules you intended.)

Mine is COEAOEAR ['kʷaɪʔhaɪ̃] "surprise".

Re: Clicking future.

That was, sort of, what I had considered. I really would like to know if other languages could acquire them over tens of thousands of years.

Clicking future.

A simple question. Let's not for one second assume that Clicks are a protosound, having traveled with these languages for a long time (for some reason), but where these languages are within a strange reclustering of classic sounds, demonstrating a very bizarre branch of ancient human speech, how muc...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

Time for weirdness. /p t tʲ t͡ʃ k ʔ/ /s sʲ ʃ h/ /w~m ɹ~n j~nʲ/ /i~ɯ~u ẽ~ɤ̃~õ a/ Non-low vowels are rounded adjacent to labials and fronted before palatalised/palatal consonants. The approximants become nasals before the nasal vowel. Syllable structure is simple CV. You have what I feel is a true "h...

Re: Shy nespù (Snafu)

An update, wherein a slight change of concept: a harkoning back to an older idea of word form and stress. CV(:/C) 'CV(:/C)CV CV'CV(:/C) Coda consonants are: [f v pf bv (labial) - θ ð ɬ ɮ s z ts dz (coronal) - ʃ ʒ tʃ dʒ x ɣ (dorsal)] Intervocalic consonants after long vowel: [m n p b t d k g ʔ f v θ ...

Re: Shy nespù (Snafu)

Once again, purely aesthetics. Truth is, I base my word forms on a basis of my own name. The syllable structure and even some deep written correspondences. Hell, my name begins with BR. That might have been the impetus for <-r>. Lettering choices for what not to do forced my hand. I like the idea of...

Re: Shy nespù (Snafu)

Truthfully, to the both of you, I wanted to make a language with a Gaelic orthography. Its inspiration was simply happenstance. Everything that it is, in the way it is, is per my own aesthetic. And I thank you both for your accolades.

Shy nespù (Snafu)

http://conworkshop.com/view_language.php?l=WWF This is my reveal of Snafu and I will be adding more to it as I am able to derive it. Complete phonology and phonotactics on this page. But a little bit about the phonotactics here. I have decided to be a bit adventurous and have words which never excee...
