Re: What did you accomplish today?

Ive been working on the noun declension tables for Khulls, as I mentioned earlier. I want to post a chart soon in the hopes that it might be itneresting to someone who wants to make noun declensions that have the appeal of PIE but in an a priori language. More to the point, someone who wants to know...

Re: Is this a realistic conastronomy?

The year length has varied within the history of Earth itself, so a value just slightly different than ours is surely ok. Temperatures are in Fahrenheit I assume? That seems reasonable, given the higher amount of land.... But for the *average* temperatures to be that far apart I think you'll need a ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Im not sure the boundary of definite:indefinite always lies along the same division as English's does. My conlangs are all SOV and all get by with no definiteness distinction. Instead it's about "first mention" vs "previously mentioned". All nouns are unmarked except for a marking on a "first mentio...

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

OK thanks, if nobody else objects I'll put the image into my sig in a few days or so, probably with a mint-green color scheme instead of pink and purple. The code is here: <?php makeImageF("$q","Eurosti.TTF"); function makeImageF($text, $font="Eurosti.TTF", $W=550, $H=44, $A=0, $X=6, $Y=20, $fsize=1...

Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

The sig I've been using on the ZBB consists mostly of http://pabappa.com/pics/euro5.php It's a dynamic image that refreshes every time the page is loaded to show one of five different short sample sentences in Poswa (not Pabappa). Would that sig be considered too distracting here? No one said anythi...

Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread

I like the zero-width space idea. I sometimes use pipe symbols inside the brackets, like [|b|]. I prefer the zero-width idea, but at least with pipes theyre easier to type on a mobile phone. I got the idea from the ZBB, where there was once a tradition of just using the pipe symbol by itself, and I ...

Do you like to be able to ... I don't. I like knowing how a given sound is pronounced, though. E.g., I don't use epiglottals because I can't figure out how they work. I don't mind using pharyngealization, though, although I have trouble pronouncing, because I feel that I understand the underlying p...

Re: I am a boy.

In Poswa the first part isnt really much of an exercise, since the distinction between "a boy" and "the boy", in this context, doesnt exist .... both are considered indefinite, even if the speaker and the listener both know that there is only one boy who fits the description to follow. :con: Poswa T...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I added 86 noun classifier suffixes to the Khulls lexicon .... This sounds like way too much, and it is, but they'll merge into a dozen or so just with existing phonotactic rules, so I plan to keep each entry separate so I can more easily remember the composite etymologies.

Re: Zekoslav's conlang attempt thread - Indo-European descendant

Does this language preserve laryngeals? Are the fricatives descended from them? I'm interested in seeing the diachronics in gen eral, and if you're interested ,the phonology you used as a starting point from PIE itself. Also, regarding the two x's.... Some mobile browsers merge those two, so I had t...

The police were woodlice, segmented isopod crustaceans from under the Earth.... Wow. I'm impressed. I am interested in reading this novel when it is published, and that's also very rare for me. I originally wrote " Very rarely do I stumble upon an idea that makes *my* imagination seem tame. " but r...

Re: The relationship between human souls and decomposition

This would frighten me if it were real. The idea that a *soul* can be compromised is the biggest fear of all to me since there's no way to protect oneself other than to hope for divine help. Ive always been suspicious of any assertion that a human can influence another human's path to salvation, as ...

Re: Weird Dream Thread

I've been pretty sick lately. [.....] But recently, my fever-dream was about these unkillable (like in G-Mod) giant "5 de febrero" signs in a fuzzy distortion font and also unkillable groundhog images. They were glowing in the darkness, chasing me. "They don't stop coming, and they don't stop comin...

Re: Does anybody else get bored of conworlds easily?

Everything I've ever written is canon, at least metaphorically. From when I was 3 yrs old to my early twenties, I mostly wrote about space. So e.g. the spaceships have become boats, the aliens have become animals, (I still have sentient/sapient animals) and cities of millions have become towns of th...

Re: Sharing space with other species

Humans seem to need to make every place they live securely a human territory, and Im not sure how well we'd cope with having a second species living in and among our own habitats. Your question seems to assume this, and that the other species also would prefer to have territory dedicated to its own ...

Re: Are your main conpeople human or of a different species?

My planet, Teppala, has several sapient species, and humans are confined to specific habitats just like each of the others. The other sapient species vary between hostile to humans and unreliable allies, depending on the situation. All of the other sapient species are traditional claws-and-teeth pre...

The highest Ive ever made it is a bit over 10000 words for Poswa. I dont know the exact number because I store my vocabylary in an Excel spreadsheet with lots of gaps between words. Elgin definitely created the majority of the words herself, but the words further from the core were sometimes contributed by other women, whose names were given in credits in a paper document which I...
