The "Basic 150" list in Part I of the LCV has been expanded into 200 words. left (opposite of right) -- at the same side where the heart of a human is located right (opposite of left) -- at the other side of where the heart of a human is located cold (water) warm (water) hot (water) Why constrainin...

I wasn't inspired by Tolkien either. I haven't even read Lord of the Rings . . .
Me too -- but I've seen all three parts of the Lord of the Rings movie in one night at the cinema.

Re: A software question

Hi! I am new here but not new to the conlanging. Now I'm working on my conscript and I need some help with the software. My script is based on many unique characters just like Chinese hanzi. So there is a pinyin input method that allows the user to input the characters by displaying a window with p...

Re: Debate (Conpeople vs Conpeople)

- In fact, no. Well the clans had a lot of responsabilities, children are just one of its, and like in any family, the clan leader tries to save the bigger quantity of money. But with the difference that the clan can, and may help any member of the clan, it does not matter if its of that family or ...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I use simply "do" as the gloss on my Kankonian page (although it uses a more transparent style of glossing instead of Leipzig -- I rewrite my glosses in Leipzig to post them on this board), but it seems that Leipzig likes to avoid simple English words for this kind of function word. (Using "NEG" in...

Re: A badly written introduction to the scientific method

Human psychology and ethics are linked, as are evolution and game theory. If we determined a baseline for human ethics, we could create a system to make determining a complete "should do this" ethics easier. Just as you can do art or music bettter by knowing the principles of visuals or music, all ...

Re: A badly written introduction to the scientific method

An accepted theory is thus just one that describes the universe accurately. Human shit included. Disproving a theory doesn't alter the universe, it just means our abstractions were wrong. The whole universe? I'd rather say that it should describe the phenomenon in question accurately. Even things l...

Re: Greek/Hebrew creole (attempt #2)

So, what would be belieavable phonologically? Grammatically? And so on and so forth. I have a small amount of work done on it, but I don't really want to move forward until I know I have something good. Since creoles are the second stage after the pidgin , I think you should first make a Greek/Hebr...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

How to apply the asterisk when you just assume a diachronical derivation word2 < word1, say both of the forms are attested? If both forms are attested, why would asterisks be needed? Because the derivation isn't sure. There are more than one (two or three) theories how the current form was derived....

Re: (Con)linguistic Tool Development Collaboration

To be honest, nowadays I'm more interested in the tools to develop conlangs than the conlangs themselves - conlangs keep being created/abandoned as a constant stimulus to the community, but tools are rare and could have a significant impact. What exactly does it mean when conlangs ''keep being abon...

Re: On a meaningless world

Conservative thinkers have been trying to convince us that everything that happens has causes . A ball moves because it is hit by another ball. The boat moves because it is pushed by the wind. I am a jew because my mother is a jew. Everything in your hyper-conservative view of the universe is deter...

Yes, in fact the clan pays for all the needs of the child, of each child in the clan. So the money is spent on the needs, with no fixed amount per child? The simbiosis in the catys are awsome, gavras (the specie of the descendants of raga) will never let their child with other animal diferent of ba...

Re: Is there a lexicon of 660 (or similar amount) basic word

Translating Khemekis' link about Asperger's into English, it looks like it's a parody of an Aspie saying basically going along the lines of "A cat is not a disabled dog, it's a cat." in reference to labelling Aspies and people with autism as having a disability or disorder, although I've never hear...

Re: Debate (Conpeople vs Conpeople)

Let's resurrect this topic. Next theme: Justified abortion/infanticide Some cultures forbid abortion even when it will kill the mother. Some modern laws allow abortion of pregnancy caused by rape. In your conculture opinion, is that a murder? Does the child inherit the cruelty of their father? Ther...
