What can I say? It doesn't fit above, put it here. Also the location of board rules/info.

Many children make up, or begin to make up, imaginary languages. I have been at it since I could write.

I also love the Japanese one (it kind of sums up the Japanese spirit, I think), but my favourite has got to be the previous Tuvan anthem, "Tooruktug Dolgay Tangdym", the one they used to have before they replaced it in 2011 with one that is less good, I feel.

I also have a perhaps rather unfortunate soft spot for the anthem of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria: the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is continued nowadays as part of the "Caucasian Emirate", a militant jihadist organisation seeking to expel the Russian presence in the region, many of whose members have gone off to wage jihad in Syria, so this anthem might possibly give people cause for concern.

That statement sounds slightly Islamophobic.

Ah, I love Nepal's anthem.

It might be accidental, but I agree that the languages specified give the statement the unfortunate implication of being anti-Islam instead of just generally cautious of possible signs of zealotry.

Oh, sorry if I have offended anyone by that, now I think about it it is a rather unnecessary thing to say. How about "The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is continued nowadays as part of the "Caucasian Emirate", a militant jihadist organisation seeking to expel the Russian presence in the region, many of whose members have gone off to wage jihad in Syria, so this anthem might possibly give people cause for concern and to be offended."

I wonder if they wrote the lyrics in Cyrillic in the video I watched just to tick them off. I hope not... Anyways, Caucasian music is cool, so I understand where your liking it comes from, and Chechen is a pretty interesting language to hear, as are all the languages of the Caucasus (and possibly any language that you don't hear regularly). But people can write "God is Greatest" in their anthems all they want without blowing people up, and people can blow people up without saying "God is Greatest" at all, so I don't see why that should be the issue.

I wasn't accusing anyone; I was just pointing out that the phrasing could lead people to be offended (I've been accused of Islamophobia because of bad phrasing myself).

The motto on the US $1 note is 'In God We Trust'. I haven't seen atheists rebelling yet. And I think you see your green George more often than you hear the anthem of some foreign country.

Oh, I love Mawtini so much right now! It's the flowing Arabic verse that does it for me really, and the great tune as well.

Niue is not actually an independent country, but how do you all think of Niue's national anthem "Ko E Iki He Lagi"?

I think the anthems of Armenian and Georgian SSR sound better than post-Soviet counterparts, of course except the lyrics.
Spoiler:
Be glorious eternally, our homeland,
You are an inextinguishable forge of heroes;
You gave the world great Stalin,
Who intensified destroyed the slavery of nations.

Hm… favourite anthems. So, my favourite is probably the anthem of :tyv: Tuva, which is rather unique. Also in Russia, there's the :udm: Udmurtian anthem (I'm amazed those flags are a thing here, btw). Other favourites include :kaz: Kazakhstan and :deu: East Germany. The latter one is, imo, much better than the current German anthem, both musically and lyrically. "Risen from ruins and facing the future".

Honorable mention for the anthem of :som: Somaliland.

I agree that these are nice, particularly Tuva's and East Germany's.

Is it me, or is the previous anthem of Tuva better than the current one?

Call me biased, but I love the Puerto Rican national anthem, despite the lack of a flag. However, it's been horribly mistreated—the original lyrics were a revolutionary call to arms, but the territorial government changed the lyrics because they were held to be far too inflammatory for official adoption. The official arrangement of the anthem is a slow march, completely removing the sass and style from the original danza. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop Puerto Ricans from performing it with all the style in world [:D].

I don't know if there are any other music nerds on this forum, but musically La Borinqueña has a few distinctive features. Much like Hatikvah, most of the song is written in a minor key (in the case of the :isr: Israeli national anthem, natural minor; in that of Puerto Rico's, melodic anthem), but it modulates into the major of that key which Hatikvah doesn't do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGhAlnHbUIM (a video of famed cuatrista Quique Domenech interpreting the national anthem WITH the original revolutionary lyrics)

As I've always said: the only national anthem you can dance to.
