I recently obtained several of Prokofiev's symphonies on vinyl at a record store :) Looking forward to listening to them soon (I have them on CD, but I'm getting more into vinyl now).
We have a record player at home and my dad has a good number of records from when he was younger, but no Shostakovich. [:(]
Well, I only have one Shostakovich record at the moment--Cello Concertos--got it at the local record store. But yeah, I got tons of opera records from my parents' collection and even my grandparents have a number of them as well. Love of vinyl runs in the family

I think now I'm going back to listening to things other than metal, but eh, had to listen to someone recite Hildebrandslied to a metal song for 9 minutes and 20 seconds :P

That also kind of makes me want to sketch out the heavy metal jokelang again.

Edit: And I go to another tab I had opened, that was supposed to be "Irish poetry" and - it's an Old Irish poem set to a song. I don't think this metal at least. (I've heard some pretty soft-sounding music that's supposedly metal so I'm cautious.)

There you go again!

Y'know, your Baroque escapades made me look for Haendel's Messiah sung in Spanish. Thanks, btw! [:D]
I loved singing that piece, whatever the tongue!! And when I'm not singing it, I like listening to it.

Water Music is another goody.

On another note, free picoseconds of time have been spent watching lectures of Jack Szostak Ph.D. about the origins of the protocell, cell membranes, and the explosion of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cornucopiae.

Utterly utterly fascinating!

Its funny how, when Szostak posits that nucleotide formation was fostered by a kind of trial by fire & ice, it reminds me of eldermost
Ymir and Auðhumbla.

Also, when he suggests that marillionite clay also can line up and help connect nucleotides as well, and fatty-acids into membrane (sheets)... life from clay? Well, not exactly, but still amazing how scientists are nailing down the chemical processes that led to the origin of Life as we know it.

'Scuse my burst of 'magical thinking'. [:$]

Now, back to researching some acidiphilic haloarchaea for my son's conworld. [B)]

I will defs be playing Haendel's Water-Music in the background. [:D]

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring

... Bloody hell.

I remember listening to this as part of a tape of Fantasia if you know it. It's a concert and they put animations on it - it even has Mickey mouse playing the sorcerer's apprentice.

How Typical !! by TAMAONSEN

Such a fucking good song. Rappubito and Maji's verses (second and fourth) are so fucking good, the only problem with this song is that the vocal sections end too quickly and the end is stretched out too long.

Skillet's new album Unleashed, mostly "Out of Hell" and "Feel Invincible". Sooo goood...

The album in general is pretty good, although a few songs sound so similar to earlier Skillet songs, it makes you wonder if they just reused old recordings. And a couple of songs are just... eugh, not that great. "Lions", for example, is a terribly insipid "worship" song. I could stomach it as par for the course if it came from just about any other band, but come on! Skillet's a rock band, a good one! What are they doing making drivel like that??

Listening to the Gaelic song "Tha Caolas Eadar Mi's Iain" sung by a couple different singers. Celtic languages just sound the best to me :)

  • I am a poor, wayfaring stranger,
While journ’ying through this world of woe,
Yet, there’s no sickness, toil nor danger,
In that bright land to which I go.
I’m going there to see my Father,
    I’m going there no more to roam;

    I’m only going over Jordan,
    I’m only going over home.

I want to wear a crown of glory,
    When I get home to that good land;
I want to shout Salvation’s story,
In concert with the blood-washed band.
I’m going there to meet my Savior,
    To sing His praise forevermore.

  • Ye golden lamps of heaven farewell with all your feeble light
Farewell thou ever changing moon pale empress of the night
And thou refulgent orb of day in brighter flames array'd
And thou refulgent orb of day in brighter flames array'd
My soul which springs beyond thy sphere no more demands thy aid
And thou refulgent orb of day in brighter flames array'd
And thou refulgent orb of day in brighter flames array'd
My soul which springs beyond thy sphere no more demands thy aid

[<3] Marvellous!
[:D]

One of the best versions of "New Britain" I ever heard, happens to be the oldest recorded version, in Shapen Note -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OcsVolWYNI

I think I heard it on the documentary called "Amazing Grace".

That style of singing somehow reminds me of Hutsul/Carpathian "biely holos" singing that my grandparents and grandunclen once enjoyed.

*Heia, pues, los viejos tiempos...*

Erm...I mean...

*Ой йoй йoй, дe є старі добрі часи...?*
Oh, where are the good old days...?
