Fimbulwinter Detroit (Wheel in the Sky)

Post by eldin raigmore » 06 Apr 2018 14:30

Winter is here again, oh Lord!
Seems like it’s lasted a year or more!
I hope it won’t hold on very much longer.

The wheel in the sky isn’t turning!
I hear it will snow through tomorrow!
The wheel in the sky isn’t turning!

I just looked up Pennsylvania’s “Onion Snow” because of reading your post above. Isn’t it (or is it) still too early in the Spring for us to call it “onion snow”? (I’m new to the term so I don’t really know. ). After Beltane or Walpurgisnacht if it snows that’ll be the 2nd half of spring; wouldn’t ( or would) “onion snow” be more “appropriate” a term then?

Thanks for the info!

Again, this week. I thought I might freeze my testicles off. I noticed a brass monkey that had actually been neutered.

Well, it’s certainly after Beltane, Walpurgisnacht, Candlemas, Groundhog Day, etc., now.
It’s more than halfway to spring.
But the Detroit area, and Michigan in general, and the Midwest, and the Great Lakes states and provinces,
are experiencing Polar Vortices and Winter Storms and shit like that there.
In abundance.
Too much abundance.
Enough with the snow already!

Oh the flipside the UK has been experiencing frightening unseasonably warm weather - for the first time temperatures over 20o C have been recorded in winter.

And it's the worst! I'm a "winter person". All this "Sun out and no clouds" nonsense is doing my head in. I just want to enjoy the last few days of winter in peace (I mean, we've had, what, like 4 days of snow this winter so far?)
You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

Whilst down here in The Swamp even one snowflake is enough to shut the place down. So technically, even if we don't have any snow, that's actually enough snow already.

This year, we're above average for snow, but thankfully it melted quickly.

please be so good as to send some floððeration our way. Lord Elau has been right stingy with his beard-shakings this Afteryule season.

This winter was rail-thin on the white schtoff, especially when last year we had a few good hammerings and attendant days off from lycée.

This year, we had some days that could really confusticate and bebother the wedding-tackle of a brass simian, but when the precip would finally arrive on the scene, it was too warm and literally put a wet blanket on the proceedings.

I'm with Sangi on this one: where's the overcastneß? Where's the niflheim darkneß? Where's the hoarse crispneß of wintry air to greet my nostrils in the dunkel gloaming??¿ Where's my seasons??!? [o.O] [:'(] Global warming? Tollting Magnetic Pole? Lord Elau/Jack Frost/Did Moroz asleep on the job ⸘‽⸮! Who's to blame? My car, and the millions of other vehicles chugging along…

My biological/circadian inward gizmo feels downright outsprung. [:S]

Please to be making gigantic Simpsonsesque kaiju-ice cubes for shipment to North Pole.

Certainly a meteorological disturbance of yet another order entirely, but worth noting.
