Re: Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Not a question, just like the idea.
Re: Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Why did Emperor Dusan of Serbia die suddenly? Apparently he was poisoned, but this is highly unlikely because the Balkans were at peace then. The Byzantines decided to back him, too, and the Bulgarians had their troubles cut out with Byzantium.
Might there be an alternative theory to his death? (other than some guy saying he caught malaria or smthing)

Why have the best mystery stories and crime novels been coming out of Nordic and Scandinavian countries recently?

Odds are there wouldn't be a Gulf Stream, so the British Isles and Northwestern Europe would be a lot colder.Milyamd wrote:How would world look today if Atlantis existed and didn't fall?

Push that back a few centuries or millennia, actually.Darkgamma wrote:Greek steam machines in the 1000s, Nuke power 1250-1500, World War between Greece and China, 1625, Space Station, 1700, Moon Landing 1750, Mars landing 1820, aliens 1821Milyamd wrote:How would world look today if Atlantis existed and didn't fall?

Actually, it's quite likely that it would happen a few centuries back. While browsing around the internet, I found this native american calender. Upon doing more research, it seems it's called a Cisllaq, but I haven't been able to find anything else about it.

I know nothing about Emperor Dusan, but even in peacetime a ruler is going to have enemies, so it's conceivable someone might successfully poison him.Darkgamma wrote:Why did Emperor Dusan of Serbia die suddenly? My research lead me to believe that his nobility loved him being alive, as him being dead would get, and did get, his son on the throne. Urosh then proceeded to split his kingdom apart and give parts to the nobility, thus retaining no power. The respect the aristocrats had for Dushan kept Urosh alive, too. He is speculated to have died of some disease he caught during the battle of Maritsa.Curlyjimsam wrote:I know nothing about Emperor Dusan, but even in peacetime a ruler is going to have enemies, so it's conceivable someone might successfully poison him.Darkgamma wrote:Why did Emperor Dusan of Serbia die suddenly? Poor bastard, how sad of him not to have children.

Even though it could be smelled that the two of them were eaten and butchered around as if the other ones had experience, I can obviously tell you two are eating peacefully without being disturbed.

If the defenders of the Alamo had known to build walls with smooth sides facing the enemy do you think they could have held out better?

Is there a name for animistic spirits that in the religion have slowly gained distinct names and personalities and thus have become more akin to minor deities?
Re: Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
They also needed to angle the walls outwards.eldin raigmore wrote:If the defenders of the Alamo had known to build walls with smooth sides facing the enemy do you think they could have held out better?

I assume you mean vertically, that is, the top of the wall would lean over the attackers?
Or did you mean the corners?
Medieval and earlier fortresses tended to be "star"-shaped; corners were acute and alternated convex-concave.
Which one didn't they do? Which one would they have had time to do even if they'd known how?

The first. It isn't necessarily feasible, but does it not work?eldin raigmore wrote:Explain?xinda wrote:They also needed to angle the walls outwards.eldin raigmore wrote:If the defenders of the Alamo had known to build walls with smooth sides facing the enemy do you think they could have held out better?
