Oh, wow, I'm not quite there yet! I'm in sixth year of secondary school (Scottish system), so I have to do dissertations for my "Advanced Higher" subjects. But I hope to be going to the University of Edinburgh to study Linguistics next year.
What can I say? I like making stuff up.

On the timeline: ...I'm not really sure, to be honest. I'd envisioned it that an Onlooker would take a few hundred years or so to return a civilisation to the elements, so to speak. I'd planned to maybe go back a couple thousand years or something. If I'm honest, this was probably one of the areas I needed the most help on.
If it takes Onlookers centuries to do that (joint effort between Onlookers, or a lone task?), then what......wait, are Onlookers distractable? As in, could one start to raze a civilization, but trail off or stop for Onlooker reasons, and not get back to it until after the civilization tries to rise to a greater height?
Thanks again everyone! All of these ideas have been really helpful, and don't hesitate to ask more questions.
happy to help take part in helping.
