No, I'll give you two hints: there's a prefix, and the long vowel in the root is not an archaism, but rather an innovation due to something being lost.

Well I guessed that! (salinare > sa:nare). I don't know what prefix there could possibly be, though - supra-?

You've said the Classical Latin ancestor didn't begin with <sa->, but did it begin with <s-> at all?

Your on the right track! The answer is no [cross]. Something very Italian-like happened to it's beginning (this should help you make out the prefix).
