My brother, my sister and my dad can all play guitar. I suppose I just wanted to follow them... Even after just six years, I'm not bad...

I play piano too, but I've only been playing for 4 years. I started playing bass in July also

But for me this shows a certain dedication.

It's easy to stop playing a new instrument, but you keep at it.

Merci! [:)] Et tu as droit.
Thanks! And you're right. I just wish I learned earlier since my playing isn't really that good.

Nu ska jag försöka att lära mig att spela antingen The Breaking of the Fellowship eller Concerning Hobbits från Lord of the Rings... Jag har tittat The Fellowship of the Ring idag , och tycker jag att det är jävla bra ännu!

Now I'm going to try to learn either Concerning Hobbits or the Breaking of the Fellowship from Lord of the Rings... I've watched TFOTR today and still think it's bloody good!

I've never read The Lord of the Rings, but my dad bought me the book not long ago, so I'll be reading it soon.

Do folks say 'pipa' in English? The translation I got was 'lute,' which makes a lot more sense to me. But, a musical expert, I ain't.

But no-one has ever guessed what instrument I play! (seriously, I've played for like a decade)

The folks over at Wikipedia do. It certainly is a lute analogue, but when I hear "lute", I think of guys running around in tights and elf shoes singing about bitter dregs, which doesn't inform the sense of the pipa. Which leaves the clunker "Chinese(-style) lute" ("(Korean(-style)) pickled cabbage" may be a starter's descriptor but doesn't necessarily pull up the image of kimchee). The oud, the sitar, the shamisen, the pipa ... I just run with the indigenous term and that way you can avoid the whole pointed discussion about just how lute-like or un-lute-like these things are. Do you play the ocarina, or perhaps the accordion?
