Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Oh, jeez, I'm sorry. I've had a very busy past few months, and I guess I ended up forgetting about this. I also know rather little about Old English and was getting stuck/frustrated. I'd be willing to let Ælfwine go next, but I do want to finish this round.
To recap:
edät
/əˈdɛt/
Did the coda of the first, monosyllabic word contain multiple consonants?
To recap:
edät
/əˈdɛt/
- Used primarily as a conjunction, but can also be used as a preposition.
- Originated as a contraction of a two-word phrase used in Old English.
- The second of the two words is cognate with English "that", but the first has no cognate in Modern English.
- In Old English, the first word was monosyllabic, vowel-initial, and ended in a consonant.
- The nucleus of the first word was /o/.
Did the coda of the first, monosyllabic word contain multiple consonants?
Edit: Was the first word oþ, and does this new word mean something like "until"?
